Finnbogason 'top of Cardiff's wanted list' - at £8m

Fri Jan 03, 2014 2:20 pm

Friday 3rd Jan 2014.

Celtic look set to be priced out of a renewed move for Alfred Finnbogason after the striker’s agent claimed Heerenveen value him at more than £8million.

Parkhead manager Neil Lennon admitted after the 1-0 win over Partick Thistle on New Year’s Day that he wasn’t sure what kind of price tag Finnbogason now carried after initial interest last summer.
The Celtic boss made a scouting trip to Holland last month to check on the Icelandic international and AZ Alkmaar’s Aron Johannsson as he considers potential striker reinforcements in the current transfer window.

Finnbogason’s prolific form in the Eredivisie has also attracted a host of other suitors, with new Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believed to have placed the 24-year-old at the top of his wanted list, while Everton, Roma and Villarreal have been strongly linked.

The player recently recruited new agent Kees Ploegsma, who has insisted the asking price set by Heerenveen is too high.
Ploegsma believes a lesser offer could still secure Finnbogason’s signature but that the best time for a deal will be at the end of the season.
‘It is logical that the club aims high, but I found the price tag of 10million euros (£8.25m) unrealistic,’ he complained.
‘I think Heerenveen would consider any serious offer. It is clear that Alfred wants to leave and the chances are very good that it happens in the summer.
‘This would be best for both Alfred and Heerenveen — and I assume his club could use the money.
‘But if a good club comes in for him earlier, we would seriously consider their offer.’

It’s thought Johannsson could be available from Alkmaar for a more manageable £2.5m, while Sportsmail revealed this week that a £1m offer for Wolves and Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths was being weighed up inside Parkhead.

He broke his leg in training 3 weeks after signing for them. He would've been their first choice RB.

41 goals in 48 games is not to be sniffed at. Phenomenal record.

I think Bony will be a decent PL striker. Not top class, but mid table. BUT he did cost 13m. Whereas Finnbogason would cost 6-8m, so I would be expecting say 10-15 goals p/season.

I've never seen Finnbogason play but I have seen Aron Johannsson about 4-5 times. The boy has a very quick shot, is a natural scorer with both feet, and can dribble in traffic. He would only cost about 2M if rumours are true. Can Finnbogason really be 6M better?

Because he plays for us. Bony is developing nicely and has the attributes to be a top pl striker.

Finnbogason just this season - seems to have more to him game than just finishing

Should scout him for a bid in the summer.

But, he doesn't look like anything special to handle the pressure of scoring goals instantly to keep us up.

Campbell still looks like a better option just by looking at those clips.
