thoughts on Ben Turner

i think people have mixed views but my opinion is hes brilliant. Big physical presence, rarely see him lose a challenge in the air or on the ground. he most certainly has pace despite his huge stature. ok, he switches off now and again and its cost us, but who hasnt? its why they play for cardiff and not a top 4 side. I think he still has plenty of learning to do of course but he is still developing. his weakness is his hoofing but i think the style of play didnt help that and people like a scapegoat because no one questions caulker doing it. I hope big Ben keeps his place under Ole. opinions?

Are you Ben Turner?

Gives the ball away to much with his hoofball, Most of the time he just lumps it forward and hopes for the best, Not a premier league player in my eyes, Id rather Hudson start to be totally honest.

Heading - very good
Pace - decent
Tackling - very good
Awareness -poor
Positioning -poor
Distribution - appalling
Attacking threat - poor

I think Ole will be looking to replace him. I like Turner, but will not suit Ole's attacking, expansive football. Be surprsied to see him starting many games come Feb.

decent defender.....but side have worked out he is not comfortable on the ball and close his options down.....then when our midfield dont come looking for the ball he ends up having to play a long ball, making him look worse than he is.

I honestly think he is the worst regular starting Centre Half in the Premier League or very close to being anyway.

Re: thoughts on Ben Turner

Decent championship centre half but nowhere near good enough at premier league level, Too slow, cumbersome and no confidence with the ball at his feet which means he humps it long which is criminal at this level as keeping possession is key.

haha must only be me then. i think he's an excellent defender just not a good footballer. timing of challenges, headers, blocks etc. one question i will ask everyone though......why don't the ones who moan about turner hoofing it, moan about caulker doing it?

Because when caulker does it , it's because he has no other option. Most of the time caulker runs forward with the ball and starts a move or he plays it short to medel .
Turner collects off Marshall or another defender and instead of looking for a pass when team mates make space for themselves his first and only thought is the long ball to a shortish striker who is being marked by two 6 foot plus defenders . That's if he actually hits it where he means of course because most of the time it's either to hard or sliced .

Personally think he's not up to the PL. Would like to see Ole give Hudson a go and tomorrow to see how he gets on :ayatollah:

Started off OK but has since gone downhill fast. Letting Fletcher go like he did for Sunderlands 1st was criminal for what could be vital vital points (KTC's error for 2nd). Also against Arsenal on Saturday wasn't quite as bad but think it's the first time I've seen Sagna win a header at the back post like that for a long time.....he seemed to just stand there and switch off in both instances. Gives the ball away cheaply which just brings more and more pressure back on us. Don't mind him on the bench but is definately one of the positions that OGS must strengthen.

Spot on . I blame him for arsenals second aswell , if you watch it back a high ball comes in outside the box and he heads it down about 10yards straight to cazorla a feet who then played Walcott in

The sunderland game when ktc was blamed , that goal started from a poor clearance 20 seconds before so technically he has had a mare on all 4 of those goals .

He just needs a rest he ain't a bad player just massively off form

 yeah 4 sure agree. Wouldnt get rid of him but think he's a squad player.....if we can get somebody in better that is. Even if not he needs to be rested for Huds for the next few.

I don't think he's quite as bad as others myself. I don't read too many comments blaming any other defenders for all the goals that we have conceded this season, he can't be to blame for them all?

I'm sure I saw KTC pass the ball up the line in the 94th minute 10 seconds prior to Sunderland equalising, I would have loved to see a "hoofball" then.

Also, how many times did Marshall kick it straight to Scezney on New Years day just before we fell behind?

I don't think he's perfect, far from it, but the stats will show that our defence are put under a lot of pressure for long spells and sometimes things get past them.

Just my opinion....

I would say concentration is what finds him out at PL level. Several goals this season inc two at Arsenal were because he switched off momentarily and lost his man.

At this level you are punished. The rest you could probably work on. I just don't think we can take the chance anynore; urgently need a top quality centre half.

Hopefully Hudson will make an impression tommrow at newcastle and push for a place back in the team, Turner undoubtedly has great presence in the air and is good in the challenge but his marking sometimes is terrible. With the strikers he is playing against at this level he gets caught out far too often. Hudson has better distribution of the ball from the back and after all is our club captain!
Caulker is in a different class to both of them though in my opinion, he is comfortable on the ball going forward and is a real threat at set pieces. Great bit of bussiness by malky and co

I think he's very good defensively - just needs to work on his distribution. That'll come with time; he's only young.

I think he is being found out. He frequently leaves his man in the box and sticks his hand up for offside instead of positioning himself better. His distribution is poor although I have some sympathy as he usually ends up with the ball after others have failed to make a decent pass and is left with no options but to launch it, however he can't even seem to do that right as invariably it comes back.

Saying all that he is still young and is learning, I just don;t feel he should be starting yet.

I think he has done reasonably well at PL level - has been up against some of the worlds top strikers and managed to a decent job until recently. He needs a rest now, go away and work on his composure, passing and positioning again without the pressure of a match situation. His tackling and heading have been pretty good to be fair.

big and strong in the air good defensively but his downfall is that he's not comfortable on the ball. Think Ole will move quickly to replace him
