' JOE MASON RETURNS '

Thu Jan 02, 2014 7:49 pm

Joe Mason has returned to City after his loan spell with Bolton.

The initial loan deal was due to expire on January 5th but due to him being ineligible to play in cup competitions the loan is over and he is back at Cardiff City.

Joe made 7 appearances and scored one goal for Bolton.

The type of player that can only benefit under OGS.

Can we get Conway back as well?Im not sure of the loan deal with bha

Mason is a strange one . Bags of talent and was coming on in leaps and bounds then all of a sudden just stopped and looked poor in a few games resulting in him being out of favour all together .

I think he's better off staying in the championship this season then coming back with a full championship season under his belt

Great player just a bit of a lightweight at the moment agree another season in the championship will do him good :ayatollah:

The loan has finished but as Conway is not currently one of the 25 EPL registered players he is not eligible to play for the first team. If OGS decides to keep him then he could be registered as one of the 25 players now that Rudy has gone.

Players can be dropped from the 25 now such as Tommy Smith.

I assume a new 25 man squad is tendered again just after the transfer window closes at the end of January?

Very clever striker, a lot like Ole. Similar to Campbell, if he can get someone working alongside him he'll get goals

Wouldn't say he stopped and looked poor. He was brilliant first season and got goals and never got a look in second season, but when he did he performed well. Come in against Burnley and scored.. was a threat all day and linked up with Noone. Come on against Blackburn and picked up a goal away. Scored v Charlton when we lost 5-4. Scored v Blackburn at home when he came on and got a penalty where I thought we deserved more goals and he made the scoreline more comfortable. Think he started v Birmingham and got the vital goal.

Scored against Bristol away as well. I make that 6 goals. He only got about 10 starts so that's pretty good going

Hmm , it probably had more to do with him being played out of position , he was put out wide a lot towards the end , his best position for me is just behind a main striker , that's where he gets his goals .
I remember him having a few not poor but average games where he didn't do anything but like you say he also came up with the goods when needed . That's why I said its a strange one .

Well I thought the championship winning season he didn't start enough and didn't get a look in more so hard to say he was poor for a few games. Every chance he had he proved himself getting a goal from the bench.

skill, clear, great movement and a top finisher......Joe masons downfall will be lack of pace unfortunately.

Just remember how well he played against Liverpool in the League Cup final and scoring the first goal.

Let's see how the new manager gets him back to that level.

Other than Campbell during the second half of last season, no striker excelled under MM..

I'm sure we've yet to see the best from Joe :ayatollah:

Re: ' JOE MASON RETURNS '

I think part of the problem for strikers under Malky was our inability or reluctance to counter attack quickly! We seemed to prefer a more structured, deliberate approach to,ensure that payers were not caught out of position with the ball. Possibly,,explains his reluctance to play players like Kim, Mutch and Noone who like to run with the ball. Our strikers were often faced with well organised defences and hence an overall reliance on set plays.

It will help that he's under a new manager who wants him over the half way line

He's the best finisher we have got. Think of the number of one on one's that Campbell has fluffed this season. He's definitely above Odemwingie, Maynard and Cornelias for me. Should play just behind Campbell if not replacing him.

correct me if im wrong but is it not normal practice for a new manager to recall all loanees so he can assess his playing staff or does it difer with prem rules as i said correct me if i am wrong :old: :ayatollah:

I suspect it depends on the loan contract. Some contracts are for the whole season, some for half a season, some have emergency recall provisions, some have no recall provisions, etc.

Re: ' JOE MASON RETURNS '

Mason isn't lightweight, the reason why he went off and didn't look such a good player because the fitness team put him on the weights and slowed him down, which i think is the reason why he wasn't such a good player last season

Back on loan please. No way near as good as Campbell and Odemwingie, and Cornelius and Maynard are better alternatives. Just like Rudy he should just go.
