SOLSKJAER AND BELLAMY TO WORK TOGETHER FOR BLUEBIRDS
January 2, 2014 · by owenrawlings · in Football. ·
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Cardiff City veteran Craig Bellamy will play a big role over the coming months as the Bluebirds target Premier League survival.
The forty-year-old Norwegian says the Welshman’s impending return to fitness will be a huge boost for the club.
“I would love to see Craig back,” says Solskjaer.
“I’ve spoken to him this morning and I know how important he is for everyone.”
“The sooner we can get him fit again…he can give every player a boost,” he explained.
Solskjaer, who arrives after winning two consecutive league titles with Norwegian side Molde, likes to employ a 4-4-2 formation with one winger running hard down the line [Noone springs to mind] and the other wide player tucking in and helping out with the defensive side of the game, a role which would suit Bellamy.
“I am going to bring energy and enthusiasm…I want my team to play exciting football,” Solskjaer explained.
“I want the players to express themselves – they love playing football, they want to run forward, play forward, that is my brand of football.
“The start of the Sunderland game was a fantastic example of how they can play,” he added.
But Solskjaer knows he cannot afford to overlook the Bluebirds’ defensive problems, and Bellamy could be the ideal man to address the glut of goals Cardiff have conceded down the left-hand side of late.
Liverpool’s Glen Johnson, Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez showed the rest of the Premier League how to slice Cardiff open at ease by threading passes into the space between Peter Whittingham, Andrew Taylor and Ben Turner – the Bluebirds’ triangle on the left at Anfield.
The Reds scored once in that way against Cardiff, though it could have been many more, and three further goals were conceded down the left against Southampton.
David Kerslake went some way to solving the problem against Arsenal, switching Whittingham inside and using Kim Bo-Kyung’s extra pace to provide cover for the impressive Declan John.
The eighteen-year-old left-back effectively closed the gap with Turner against Arsenal, showing great stature and awareness, though the Gunners did exploit that channel once more in the build-up to Theo Walcott’s injury-time goal.
Given Taylor’s injury, Solskjaer is likely to continue with John and could use Bellamy’s tactical nous on the left to coach the young full-back through a tough January fixture list.
Bellamy’s speed and willingness to track runners would be of great help to John – and Turner – and could prove the difference in tightening the Bluebirds up.

I'm looking forward to this guy so much. And playing Bellamy, I couldn't agree more.

Some positivity! At last

Finally someone that won't play our players in the wrong positions and he can already see which 3 players are costing us goals and games

Odd red cafe (I think) said OGS played 4-2-3-1 with a creative attacking midfielder behind the striker, one winger to cut in slightly to allow a full back to push forward.
I'd believe a drinker tramp before Wales Online.

Got to be better than 5.4.1?

Yes sound's about normal formation. ! Ogs at least is talking positive formation, time will tell if we can be attacking and be sound defensively!

That is correct. Attacking pacey full backs have been very important with Molde. The wingers would often target try to be the end of quick passing combinations to get them through on goal often in the zone between full back and center back.
Defensivly mostly two banks of four.

Honestly can't believe the negativity towards Malky here. Yes at times the football was boring, but was 3 points against Man City boring? Or winning the league boring? Fact is Malky got results and no doubt we would have stayed up with him in charge. Everyone is praising 4-4-2, what if we lose the game, get relegated but play great football? Will that be enough? Of course lets give OGS a chance and I really hope it works out, but to almost be thankful Malky has gone just seems wrong to me.
Thank you Malky, good luck OGS.

No doubt?
Sorry, but much doubt.
How many games have you seen?
Malky has everyone's respect for what he did for us but we were I am afraid we were rapidly becoming doomed.

He used to play for Liverpool but has been with Cardiff since the 2012-13 season. He's been injured and not played a great deal so far this season, so hopefully OGS can give him a starting place if/when he recovers.

Yep, fair point. I certainly didn't mean to give that impression. I think Malky's approach would have kept us up this season and there's no doubt he did a great job in his 2.5 years.
But I do think things dried up for us under Malky over the last month or so (I'm sure the off-field stuff didn't help), we really weren't creating much.
I also don't think Solskjaer will be quite as attacking as people expect, he must know the team's limitations against quality opposition. I imagine we will go 4-4-2 against West Ham, but probably 4-5-1 against Man City, United and Tottenham away?

Perhaps 4-2-3-1 would be smart against such opposition?

Yeh perhaps so. Solskjaer spoke in glowing terms yesterday about the runs which Mutch, Kim and Noone made from midfield against Arsenal. Those guys would certainly fit into the 3 attacking midfield positions you refer too, with Campbell up top.
I guess we will have to see how long Mutch is ruled out for with his hamstring issue, I don't think there has been any news on that yet?

Hamstring is usually 4 weeks

Mutch would be a huge loss if he's out for that long. He's City's most important attacking player at the moment I think. His ability to pick the ball up in midfield and drive thirty/forty yards is second to none. I reckon he could be worth £7/8 million now.
