Maine Road mid 80s, that area of Manchester is the worst place I have ever been and I will never go to a rougher place than that. Jesus wept it made the rougher parts of our fine city look like Kensington. A lot of people living around there weren't football fans they just hated everyone, high on heroin no doubt.

Anfield 1977 - Wales v Scotland. On the road to the ground we were side by side with the Jock coaches. We gave them the V's....they just flashed their knives. Surrounded by Jocks inside with bottles and full cans flying everywhere. Got home covered in blood....just glad none of it was mine.

The Den january 1975, i was a schoolkid with my best mate told our parents w were working on a farm & he had his name splashed across the football echo for being stabbed & was recovering in Guy's hospital, a case of mistaken identity but an experience that i'll never forget, a white knuckle ride all the way, sometimes firms get overated but this did not apply to Millwall of the 70's, they had some serious nutters who should have been certified, being asked the time by by a bunch of demented loons gave me nightmares for months, unforgetable day but glad i went.

Barnsley! Thats a 'dark horse' Mozz! Not a nice place especially on a night game! Another one back in 80's was Hull! Nasty lot.

Ninian park Wales v Yugoslavia was pretty scary, actually there were quite a few games there in the 70s when I was scared of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. And as everyone else who was around then has mentioned the Den or anywhere around the ground, remember someone getting a broken arm after some old geezer whacked him with his walking stick!

Least scary place was the vetch for some reason.

At the risk of sounding like a bit of a fairy, I never enjoyed visiting Somerton Park in the 70's and 80's.

Too many side streets around that ground!

Been to most,if not all of the grounds above at about the same time as being mentioned, as a Cardiff fan never felt scared or intimidated, that also includes the Wales game in Milan :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I was 12. It even became an opportunity for World War 2 veterans to voice their anger! Sixty old year old men screaming 'sieg heil' at the referee along with everyone else in the 50000 crowd! Policeman stabbed in the chest by a cornerflag! Yeah, at that age I was scared out of my wits!

Yes that was a mad night, the flag pole I think was aimed at the ref as were the full cans of beer. I thought it hit the copper in the lower part of his neck . The lad who got quite a long stretch always said he never done it, even when he came out of prison. He was from Rumney , Cardiff

That's what made the Den so scary, there was no hiding place & in 75 no police protection or segregation, you really were on your own & being a kid i've never been so scared, can always remember an old bloke in a broad cockney accent keep whispering in my ear " the lads will have you me old china", i was about 15!, you could't escape from them as they had small mobs all over the ground & they seemed to know if you was'nt one of them & when they did find you the intention was to do you some damage (as i found out) After a visit to the Old Den no other ground seemed to be that intimidating & as you rightly say Swansea was about as frightening as the Vicar's tea party, similiar walk to the ground as the Old Den but somehow a 100 of them was about the equilavent to 5 Millwall.
