Surely this can't be true?

Tue Dec 31, 2013 3:28 pm

This was in the Metro the other day. Sorry if its been discussed already!

Vincent Tan ‘tells Cardiff City to sign players with number eight in their birth date’

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has already established himself as one of the more colourful foreign owners in English football.

But Tan’s strange habits go a lot further than changing the club’s colours and then deciding to hate the manager – after his bizarre transfer plans were revealed.

According to reports, Tan has informed Cardiff’s board that he prefers them to buy players with the number eight in their birth date.

So for example, any player born on January 8th 1988 would be right in there with Tan, who is planning on splashing the cash on new signings in the new year.

Eight is a respected number in Malaysia, and Tan in particular has a keen likening to it, with the news coming as no surprise to those who know the Cardiff supremo closely.

Madness.

I don't know. You'll have to ask the 'idiot' who wrote it. That was part of the original article.

Did anyone hear Jamie redknapp on tv say that tan wondered why our keeper wasn't scoring. He's supposed to be a football expert and rise above this nonsense. The thing is he actually believed what he was saying as if it were fact. What a knob.

There is so much crazy stuff flying around, who knows what's true and what's not? With all that's happened in 2013, I wouldn't discount anything to be honest. I read in a few places that after Tan saw Hudson's goal v Derby he kept asking Malky to get the players to shoot from their own half hoping we'd score more goals!

If it isn't true, its a bit weird how our proposed first signing Magnus Wolff Eikrem was born on 08/08/90!!!!

Not at all. Ole managed Magnus at United's reserves and took him to Molde. Nothing to do with his date of birth and as another poster stated, this originated from talk sport.

The press are using Tan's lack of football knowledge as a further way to ridicule him and get more hits on articles. They make up absurd thoughts of Tan (like wondering why Marshall doesn't score) then write about it and people click on it because of how popular we've been in the press.

heard his comments on Malkys sacking followed by a rant about foreign owners not understanding football...........then a few days later came across an almost word for word rant from a year ago........only change Cardiff for Southampton.....and Malky for Adkins..........this guy has real issues..he might at least have said........of course last time i did this i was totally wrong

No. I'm pretty sure the people on talkSport were having a joke and the media took it seriously.
