Cardiff City Football Club has announced details of an innovative new charity initiative that will see them donate £1million every year to worthwhile local causes.

The brainchild of the club’s Malaysian owner Vincent Tan, the ‘Thanks a Million’ campaign see City hand over the six figure sum to help community groups and projects on an annual basis for as long as he remains the club’s majority shareholder and the side stays in the Premier League.

Approximately 50 homegrown and, as yet, undisclosed charities have been selected as beneficiaries by the likes of club staff, management and players, and representatives from each have been invited to Cardiff City Stadium for an official reception, lunch and presentation next Thursday where they’ll be able to meet City Chairman Mehmet Dalman, manager Malky Mackay and the team’s senior squad amongst others.

“I firmly believe that Cardiff City’s promotion to the Premier League after a long 51 year wait to play at the top level is a blessing,” says Tan

No denying he has done some good things but changing our historical badge and colours too something he would prefer was selfish as f**k.

Shame he wasn't so caring for anyone else's feelings when he did the rebrand, eh?

I kinda agree with you, although rumour has it that he was taking a lot of back handed deals, one rumour I heard that he had 50k for John Brayford! Of course we would never know the truth but if there is something in this story then I can understand the reason why Tan got rid of him....

Im not believing any rumours.. If you re-read what I wrote, I actually AGREE WITH YOU that moody should have stayed... I was just simply pointing out the maybe as to why tan wanted him out... It's a rumour NOBODY WILL EVER KNOW!!

The club have done an investigation into all payments and moody was squeaky clean. If tan could have found a reason to sack moody for misconduct and save himself the pay off he would have done so.
The fact Moody's contract was paid in full tells you there was nothing found against moody

I think the charity donation is just a cultivated plan to get fans on board whist the rebrand transition takes effect. It works as shown by the initial post. Excellent marketing me thinks.

We all know he has done good to both the club and the community but in turn he created a franchise....this outweighs the good in my view.

Well said true blue, but the cynic in me says that all companies and famous people dontate money for their own personal agenda, tax breaks or just as a PR stunt, how many decent singers do you get on the "do they no its xmas" song? Nout, cos the ones whose carrers are going well dont need the publicity!

On the rebrand I understand Tans reasons, but Id like to see how much extra revenue has been generated from playing in red rather than blue, surely the gangnam buisness man must have some decent people running the books.... oh wait, they donet which is why the club was allowed to overspend by £15 million, who signed those deals off???!!!!!
