BLACKBURN HOPE TO SIGN CITY STRIKER PERMANENT

Tue Dec 31, 2013 9:28 am

Tuesday 31st December 2013.

BLACKBURN Rovers hope to seal a permanent move for striker Rudy Gestede when the transfer window opens tomorrow.

The 25-year-old’s initial loan from Cardiff City runs out after the New Year’s Day encounter at Leeds United.

But Rovers boss Bowyer is confident Gestede will sign a permanent deal.

Cardiff are willing to sell the Benin international for a small fee as he is out of contract in the summer – and Bowyer is keen to keep him.

“Hopefully we can get it over the line,” said Bowyer.

“I think in the last two games the fans have started to see what he is capable of and what an asset he could be for our football club.

“He’s got fantastic work rate and you look at the size and the strength he proves.

“He’s also got pace which he showed against Sheffield Wednesday when he got past the defender and should have done better with the finish.

“We just need him to get that first goal and then he’ll be flying.”

Gestede, after four substitute appearances and one start, has yet to open his account for Rovers.

One player being linked with a move away from Rovers is Alan Judge.

League One sides Brentford and Sheffield United have both expressed interest in taking the midfielder on loan.

But the Blades appeared to pull out of the race for his signature on Sunday when their assistant manager Andy Garner said: “We were looking at him, he was one of the players were interested in.

“I think something might have been done with another club.”

Bowyer, however, insists Judge’s departure is not a foregone conclusion.

The 25-year-old Irishman, who returned to Rovers in the summer on a free transfer from Notts County, came on against Birmingham and he is expected to be in the squad against Leeds.

Bowyer said: “He wants to play for us, that’s for sure, but at the same time he wants to play football and you have to admire him for that.

“He’s not just one of those who wants to sit on his wages. He wants to play football so it is something we’ll monitor as we go along.

“I fully expect him to be in the squad on Wednesday.”

Bowyer also confirmed that former Rovers defender Lucas Neill is training with the club at Brockhall but the Australia captain is not expected to sign a deal at Ewood Park.

Neill, who has family based in Blackburn, is a free agent after his release from Japanese outfit Omiya Ardija in January.

And Bowyer has given the 35-year-old the chance to keep his fitness up while he searches for a club.

Neill is believed to have been told by Australia coach Ange Postecoglou he must find new employers before March if he is to skipper the Socceroos at next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

I said the same at Saturdays game, I think Rudy is a better prospect than Cornelius and would prefer to see him on our bench at the present time.
Hopefully the new manager will review all loans before agreeing new deals, Mason is imo a better bench option than odemwingie.

Rudy had plenty of opportunities here and failed to take them. He is not good enough, even for a top championship club. Can be an ok addition for a bottom to middle championship club with an outside ambition of promotion. How many of us supporters and no doubt coaching staff gave thought that " if he scores one he will go on a run" it never happened.
I hope he gets his move and gets on with his career at Blackburn, who won't be leaving the Championship any time soon.

Cornelius will be a far better player than Gestede. Can't believe how many people are writing him off already.

The new manager must surely bring them all back. After all, we have a squad of 25. Usually, a new manager starts with a clean slate, and everybody has a chance to impress. Sometimes, blokes who have not featured are called back into the side, and do well. Got a strong hunch that several of our players will do that.

im sure i read we have ten out on loan, and need room for new signings............its a f*cking nighymare ist couple of weeks for the new manager to sort this lot out...........the opposite to the clean canvass malky had...i think it was 10 players mostly descent ones at that.

Gestede is a bag of shite and how anyone can suggest we should have him back is beyond me. This is the player 'with bags of potential' , well as he's now 25 that potential tag is wearing a bit thin.

Had to laugh at the Blackburn managers comment which just about sums him up:

“We just need him to get that first goal and then he’ll be flying.”

f*cking deluded.

If Blackburn want him let's cut our losses and get rid. We could chuck in Velidonkey and few mil and get Jordan Rhodes in return!

Good post agree entirely about Rudy, in the same league as Whittingham, Cowie, Taylor and quite a few other has beens or never quite weres. However, with a new manager on board soon hopefully, instead of Jordan Rhodes why don't we set our sights higher, like Llorente or someone of that class?

As already said, can't we recall Rudy and send them Cornelius instead? There's been times we've been chasing the game where we've been crying out for someone like Rudy to come on late to be an awkward nuisance. Rudy works his socks off, Cornelius doesn't. Because of Cornelius' pathetic lack of effort, he will never improve as a footballer with us, it's clear the determination and hunger just isn't there.

Cornelius is probably more interested in that stupid film he's doing than putting in a little bit of effort for us. Maybe he doesn't want to get himself injured to stop him doing this film so he just jogs around the pitch for us for 15 minutes, allowing the Sunderland defenders time to carry the ball into our half, start attack after attack after attack to eventually score a late equaliser!

FFS do any of you actually remember how Rudy plays?

Does no one remember him being yanked off at half time against Millwall because his positioning was so bad he let the ball bounce off the back of his head when everyone in the stadium knew where the ball was except him?!

Do you not remember his running like bambi? Strolling around against West Ham before falling over faking an injury because he was playing so badly?

I hope he goes Blackburn and relegates them.
