Your Favourite Season

Mon Dec 30, 2013 11:13 am

This board seems a bit depressing at the moment so let's have a bit of a light hearted strut down memory lane. What were your favourite seasons as a Cardiff City fan?

I would have to say that I've got three...

1993/94

This was the season when I first attended a number of games as a 10 year old. I'd seen a few before but attended a number of games this season and have fond memories from it. Obviously, the stand out memory was Nathan Blake's winner against Manchester City in the FA Cup but I also remember listening to the Middlesbrough replay on the radio in the next round after we held them to a draw at home. I also remember vowing to always hate John Hartson after that Luton game! It was also a time when loads of my mates were supporting Manchester United so it was nice to have a handful of us in school shouting "Stant!" and "Dale!" when we scored in the playground as opposed to "Giggs!" and "Cantona!". The season ended really well too with us staying up and the 1994 World Cup taking up the summer.

1999/2000

After a large period of my teenage years was spent swimming most days this was the year when I had to quit swimming and then had Saturday afternoons free so started to get more involved in going to Cardiff games again. The likes of Winston Faerber and Jorn Schwinkendorf were "exotic" signings and even though we got relegated, it felt like the club was going places. It also saw us attract some reasonably big name players for the time including Willie Boland, Ritchie Humphreys and Ian Feuer. This was when supporting Cardiff was at its most innocent for me. Before the big money but at a time of unjustified optimism!

2011/12

After years of disappointing and soppy performances by overpaid players we finally stripped it all back, brought in a manager who installed a great work ethic and fantastic commitment levels throughout the club and enjoyed a season of zero expectation... in blue! We didn't win anything that season but I just loved not caring about promotion or relegation or finances or anything. This was the last season that things were ideal and I'm glad I experienced it.

1975/76 and the current one.

What everyone forgets is that there has always been a drama/trauma of one sort or another virtually every season since, and including, the 1970s. It's either been shit teams, promotions or mad/crooked owners.

The difference this year is that we are high profile and a club everyone wants to talk about us. This season we've had two great games against the Mancs, the Liverpool trip was memorable, the last minute goal at Fulham, we've beaten the Jacks, etc and we're still only half way through the season

I could do without the Tan shit but I refuse to let that nutter spoil what I have been waiting for all these years :ayatollah:

Player, owners, managers - they all come and go. Us lot will still be here whatever happens :ayatollah:

I think it was the season we got promoted to the championship via the play/offs.

1978/79
Only missed 2 games home or away, the usual highs and lows, lost 5-0 at Cambridge but beat Sunderland 2-1 at Roker Park, really good finish to the season started away at Blackburn 4-1 on the Tuesday and followed by Leicester 2-1 on the Saturday

Anyone remember the 2004/2005 season we almost got relagated - we were at gillingham and Andy legg was stood in the executive stands.

We needed a point to stay up and Paul Parry equalises the whole away end went absoloutely beserk!
what a day that was

Yeah, I did consider that one but remembered how we almost blew it by going on that awful run and just about hanging on to the playoff spot. I did really enjoy our first season in the Championship as well actually. That match against Nottingham Forest away was some of the most exciting football I've seen us play.

76/77 77/78 going round the country in transit van for away games oh happy days

Think it was 03/04, only because it was when I first started going to away games after only doing home games previously. Loved all the away days, just got smashed from stupid o'clock in the morning till we got home, have some great memories. Particularly Preston with a stay over in Blackpool, mayhem!

The year we got promoted to championship and the league cup final seasons also up there for me.

Felt like we had made it getting to the championship. Was just as big as getting to the prem for me.

Forest away, went on my own with a hangover but worth it :ayatollah:

2011/12. All the reasons above, and the Carling Cup run. Those early rounds in the cup were really enjoyable. After a few shit years under DJ it was nice to see some work ethic around the place

Definately 92/93, but also 87/88 with promotion from the dungeon under Frankie Burrows, some very enjoyable, if very naughty away days, that season

1964 has to be, my first ever season at the greatest stadium ever and the greatest team in history.
Damn you father for taking me on that cold european night in December 1964, have been hooked ever since, even this frigging year!!! If I had not gone on that day, who knows, I might have been a millionaire now! What am I saying, Cardiff City - your worth a million dollars. :ayatollah:

All seasons from 1969 - 1972 down Ninian in the old wooden creosote Canton stand with my Dad (RIP). From 1972 - 1977 Grange End, Bob Bank.

Rosettes, Hot dogs, Bovril, Bobble hat. skinheads, Toshack, Clarke, great European teams which came from a land far far away,John Buchanan's rocket shot, Tony Evans, peter Sayer, Adrian Alston, Robin Friday, Jim Eadie, Ron Healey, Jimmy Scoular, Jimmy Andrews, My Bluebirds tattoo, Real Madrid, Wales Internationals.

And so many , many , many more memorable games and players from City and away players. The sights, sounds, friends, Girls, Cold nights and sunny days.

Left Cardiff in 1977 to sail the world, but always went home and away when on leave.

Was at Pompey when we wrecked the clock - Leeds when we got bombarded with house bricks from the bridge and to many Bristol Rovers away days to mention.

The crowds and the friendship and feelings for OUR club seemed so much stronger then (but maybe just me being an old fart again).

Win, loose, Whatever the weather we were one - stood as one, one voice - we were Bluebirds together !!!!!

For me the change from Blue to red was like having a "heart transplant" - you will always be grateful to the donor but it just don't feel the same, no matter how you try.

Bluebirds forever !!!! :old:  :old:
