Cardiff refuse to give up on Solskjaer and rule out Sven

Mon Dec 30, 2013 1:05 am

A Cardiff City source tells Telegraph Sport that they have not given up on appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and have ruled out a move for Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Cardiff City remain determined to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the replacement for Malky Mackay and have ruled out a move for Sven-Goran Eriksson following their 2-2 draw with Sunderland.

A source at the Welsh club told The Telegraph on Sunday night that Mehmet Dalman, the Cardiff chairman, believes a deal with Solskjaer is “not dead in the water” and is hopeful that the Norwegian can be persuaded to take over the Premier League side.

Dalman has held a series of phone calls with Solskjaer and has not only guaranteed funds for the forthcoming transfer window, but also given assurances about the structure that would exist between the manager and Vincent Tan, the owner. “Solskjaer has not said ‘no’ yet,” the source said.

However, the Sir Alex Ferguson fears are obvious as Solskjaer was his striker at United and then his reserve coach and is close to Mackay, who is fighting to receive a £2.5 million compensation payment he believes is due from Tan, having been dismissed last Friday. Ferguson has always said young managers should look at a club’s chairman (or owner) when considering a job. But such is Dalman’s conviction to get his man that he has not even yet considered any other candidate.

However, after publicly ruling out the Turk Yilmaz Vural on Saturday, it is understood that the merits of Eriksson were also summarily dismissed. Cardiff will turn their attention to other managers only should Solskjaer rule himself out.

David Kerslake has been told that he may not only be caretaker for the league match at Arsenal on Wednesday but also for the FA Cup third-round tie at Newcastle United on Sunday.

Cardiff will head to the Emirates trying to forget the last eight minutes of Saturday’s draw against Sunderland, when they sacrificed a two-goal advantage. After securing four points in three days, Sunderland go into their home match against Aston Villa on New Year’s Day confident that their captain, John O’Shea, will be available after a shoulder injury.

A win could see Gus Poyet’s bottom-placed team move out of the relegation zone. The Uruguayan will not be expecting to have Fabio Borini at his disposal after the Italian striker collapsed at half-time. The 22-year-old was taken to a Cardiff hospital for tests and, despite being given the all clear, was not allowed to travel back with the team on Saturday night. He is expected to rest after eventually returning to Wearside on Sunday.

'If' they are trying to change his mind with a bigger wedge then I wonder what the difference in wages with what Malky was on bearing in mind the whole issue of Malkys sacking was around the amount of money wasted

Been posted/reported that our club are targeting ONE person for the managers job - OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER .

Putting all our eggs in one basket - Interesting to see how this pans out, with who the manager will be ;)

As a betting man i would say at ODDS ON To get the job - OGS Will NOT get the job .
Having said that money talks and if Tan wants to save face with his number 1 choice - OGS might take the money and see how things work out ( 1 year max - IMO ).

look at my post history on here and you will see who was the first to tell all about MM being our next manager .
This all comes down to money or personal comforts for OGS ... Time will tell - My Money is on others :!:

Cardiff Chairman Acts After Sunderland Fight-Back
By Tott Dixon - Seaham
Updated Monday, 30th December 2013

Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman has revealed he has only one candidate in mind to succeed Malky Mackay.
Dalman made an unexpected appearance in the post-match press conference room after the 2-2 draw with Sunderland, and said discussions have already taken place with his preferred candidate, but would not confirm who it is.
Mehmet Dalman: "I have a preferred candidate. I only have one candidate in mind.
"I have not made an offer to anybody as such, but that does not mean I have not had discussions."
When asked if he had spoken to Solskjaer, he said: "I spoke to him many a time in the old days (when the Norwegian was at Manchester United).
"I might have spoken to him recently, and I might not have.
"You know what these things are like, they take time. We will do our work as diligently and as quickly as we can but I am reasonably optimistic that we will get things moving."

My Money is down - " Let Battle Commence " ;)
