A forum for all things Cardiff City
Sun Dec 29, 2013 4:17 pm
For me and I'm sure many others, we seriously need to strengthen almost all around the park. Below I will list a position, and a few names who we could try and sign so not everyone listed. And I'm not going to claim anything ITK, because I'm not.
Striker
Jordan Rhodes - A pretty obvious name who has been passed around the forum for a while, currently at Blackburn and has ripped many teams a new arsehole with 13 goals in 21 games this term. Only stumbling block could be his price as he has been reported to be valued at £10m by Blackburn.
Alfreð Finnbogason - Another name to be tossed around the forum a few months back. He is currently destroying the Eredivisie with SC Heerenveen, having scored 17 goals in 15 games this season so far, taking his all tim Heerenveen goal tally to 41 in 48. He would probably be available for around £6-7m, but we know what's happened to Wilfried Bony in the Premier League after tearing up the Eredivisie.
Jermain Defoe (loan) - The biggest name on the list. Defoe is an experienced striker at Premier League level and a calm head. Could be interested in first team football to try and make his way into the World Cup squad, before taking a move to the MLS at the end of the season, which he has been rumoured to be considering.
Jean-Marie Dongou (loan) - A small name in the list without a real good scoring record, only managing 8 in 55 for Barcelona B in his career. The 18 year old however is regarded as one of the biggest youth prospects coming through the current Barcelona ranks, and is touted to be the next Samuel Eto'o. He marked his first team debut with a goal and could be eager to try and prove himself at a big level at a young age.
Creative Midfielders
Ravel Morrison - A name recently mentioned on the forum, with Cardiff supposedly have made a big already. Has been the highlight of West Ham's mediocre season so far and has been linked to an England call up. His attitude however is well known to be his downfall, however it could be useful to have a cocky personality in the current confidence shot Cardiff City team. Could cost around £6-8m
Leandro Paredes - A relatively unknown name, but has a bright future ahead of him. He currently plays for Boca Juniors, and at 19 years of age he has played 30 games for his club, scoring 5. He has already been linked with moves to AC Milan and Juventus and has been touted as the next Riquelme. Could be available for around £5m.
Wingers
Tom Ince - Everyone knows Malky tried to sign him in the summer and he was pretty much set to join and all that malarkey, but now, under a new manager, he could be tempted by a new style of play. He's been in good form for Blackpool and as his contract is up in the summer, he could be available for a cut price £4m.
Wilfried Zaha (loan) - Another player we've been linked with before. Hasn't really been given his Premier League chance yet under David Moyes and maybe would like to have a chance to show his stuff for another Premier League club, again to try and force his way into England's World Cup squad.
Ibrahim Afellay (loan) - Once regarded as one of the world's most wanted, Afellay, aged 27, could be aiming to redeem himself. Struggling with injury, he has only made 20 appearances for Barcelona since moving there for around £2m in 2011. At the time that looked a bargain. Now as he makes his recovery from a thigh injury, he may want a chance to make his way into Holland's Brazil squad.
Left Back
Aaron Cresswell - The only left back I have on the list has enjoyed a great start to the season with Ipswich. With Andrew Taylor starting to look a bit incompetent at Premier League level, I think City need a new left back. Cresswell has been linked with West Brom and Crystal Palace recently, but like Odemwingie in the summer, might be tempted with what will be a better pay packet. Could be available for around £5m.

BBWhitchurch, where is that taken from? Someone who knows their FM players by the looks!!
I find it hard to disagree with from what i've seen, but the price tag on Ravel (reported price tag I should say) is ridiculous.
We need to go abroad and spend less money, get some decent players from Spain/Italy/Holland ect.
Would love to see Adam Maher here! (even though he plays in the first team) He was awesome at the u21 champs! then Montero out wide, any LB with experience, but preferably someone in the mould of KTC.

a very good Centre back.
2 quality attacking midfielders,
a striker or 2,
a central midfielder.
an attacking fullback
Sun Dec 29, 2013 5:00 pm
No chance at getting Morrison.
But I'd like; a striker, deep play-maker to sit alongside Medel and a left back.
Sun Dec 29, 2013 5:03 pm
Oops, one more for me, Georginio Wijnaldum, from PSV
Sun Dec 29, 2013 5:08 pm
do we need a left back, John looks really positive for his age and another left back will slow down his development, I think he should be starting now in front of Taylor.
Sun Dec 29, 2013 5:22 pm
Jack Rodwell

The list of players who would enhance what we have here is endless....getting them to sign is the hardest part.
Who would make room for them. We currently have the maximum number of over 21 players signed on....25. Someone has to go to make room for the new players.
I think it would be out of McNaughton, Cowie, Gestede and Smith, or maybe all of them. They will all be out of contract later in 2014 so let them go sooner rather than later.
Sun Dec 29, 2013 6:54 pm
a proven premier league goalscorer i.e defoe etc
a proven premier league centre back that is better than turner
a quality full back that is better than both john and taylor
a creative midfielder/winger i.e zaha etc
give harris, conway, mason, kev, etien, maynard, kiss a few appearances to see if they can cut the mustard before end of jan ideally so we can look to sell most of them out come summer before we lose too much on them, or just loan them back out for some experience i.e harris/mason/nugent.
get rid of lappin, gestede, smith, brayford, connolly and some of the above asap to free up funds.

if the regens were real players I could turn out to be the next head of recruitment!
The FM database is far better than fifa's! Tan would snatch me up in seconds!!

It really makes me sick all the money wasted on players that have not been used, or who are just utter garbage. Imagine the difference a couple of quality players could be making to the season, sickening. Cheers moody and malky fukin useless

I went to the Dutch Cup final this year and Adam Maher was really impressive for AZ. He only just moved to PSV though so doubt he'd move again after 6 months

Agree with the previous post about Declan John's development - I think the lad has shown us he can make the step up into the first team and has earned a spot in front of Andrew Taylor in my eyes. Another solid, ball-playing center back to partner Steve Caulker wouldn't go amiss either. The left-footed, highly rated Hector Moreno was closely linked with us last summer, so there's no reason why we shouldn't take our chances come January. Finnbogason, Ince and if need be another decent central midfielder would all be great pickups, too.
