" Is there any point In increasing our capacity? "
Growing up following Cardiff City I always believed that we could average 40,000 plus if we ever reached top flight football.
Last season when we were runaway Champions, we struggled to get over 22,000 crowds.
This season in the Premier League as soon as we have played the likes WBA,Southampton(Boxing Day),Sunderland and even Newcastle, we could not sell out. Also during those games on average over 1,500 season ticket holders have not attended.
So next season if we stay when the novelty has worn off, what will happen then? Surely there will be more empty seats even if we did not go ahead with the increase in capacity.
I honestly can not believe how many empty seats there are for the not so attractive Premier Clubs and there are plenty more to come.
What also really worries me is, if we are Relegated what then?
Sun Dec 29, 2013 11:41 am
Annis it's always been that way. In the old old days we got massive attendances, then the club fell by the way side and they dropped off.
When we played Man City in the cup at Ninian Park what was the attendance?
18/19,000 odd, but the games before and after that match?
That's just the way football is, United wouldn't get 78,000 at home games if they were an unsuccessful yo yo team.
Every club has more plastic than die hards when they're successful. Which is why I'd rather have Cardiff Plastics than them plastic somewhere else...

Let him waste his money Annis, we are so far in credit to his loans another 11 million wont make that much difference...
Sun Dec 29, 2013 11:43 am
Annis, I believed we would sell every seat this season regardless of opposition.
Considering this is our first season at the top in 51 years and we do not sell every seat, you don't play Man Utd and Liverpool every week, I don't think the demand is great enough to justify expanding the stadium.
Sun Dec 29, 2013 11:43 am
I think it could take a top 6 finish for us to attract 40,000 on a weekly basis or top European players at our club.
You have to give Sunderland credit there fans never let them down regardless what league they are in that stadium is usually packed,
My oppinion is to many people in cardiff are still stuck in their Man and Liverpool bubbles given our absence from the top flight has been so long its hard to shake off that generation and get them backing cardiff when we're battling to stay up.
I would be interested to see how many turned up if we beat all the big clubs including their beloved liverpools and man utd. That would certainly get their attention

I have seen Sunderland's stadium with thousands of empty seats several times.

Annis , I never thought I would be saying this but it is now getting so bizarre I'm not sure where the hell we are. Its not as though if and when we get a scrap of info from the board we don't know if its true are not.One thing I do know is that I am a proud Cardiff City Supporter and I don't like seeing the team doing as they are but what can they do when everything around them is in tatters. We have let this odious little bully come to our shrine and change everything so much so that it is more like Kuala Lumpar than Canton. Personally the Booh did it for me yesterday, even if it was at the ref, the man is at the helm of our great club and has made us laughing stock around the world again. The man is laughing with his cronies at our despair. Sooner he is gone the better as far as Im concerned. I was far happier & proud watching the championship and I for one want it back if only to put a finger up to Tan .

Yesterday surprised me seeing so many empty seats.
Perhaps the goings on at the club have made people boycott.

People like Tan think years ahead not just the now. There is a long term vision, has to be.

I do honestly believe that the problem with football's falling gates at many clubs are a combination of about 4 factors.
Firstly, the introduction of tickets for all areas of a ground for all matches. Thus the casual supporter (fancy a pint and watch a game of football today mate? Yeah, ok lets go!!) is no more.
Secondly, no standing, in my opinion, a club looses something of the "standing terrace fan" with all seater stadia and of course capacity is vastly reduced.(and atmosphere in my opinion).
Thirdly, the massive costs with everything to do with a football club - means ticket prices they have to charge are putting ordinary supporters off - two parents and two kids - travel, food, entrance/season ticket, etc, etc must come to well over £100 for the day (and that's if you live in the Cardiff vicinity).
There are now many, many more activities for families to enjoy on a Saturday afternoon.
Blooobirds !!!!

I rem Man City game we got 20,000, next home game I think it was 6,000 approx, But I thought our fan base was so big nowadays that it would not matter who the opposition was and being a Prem Club, all matches would be sell outs and all seats with bums on.
I was never a David Temme(RIP) fan but his words seem to be proving right. " Cardiff fans Cherry pick games " he got slated at the time, including by myself, but was he right after all?
Sun Dec 29, 2013 11:51 am
I'm disappointed that the stadium isn't filling up for games against mid-table and lower-table games, particularly as I had to give up my season ticket for this season due to work, and am now free again to go to the games but am having to pay silly prices, in some instances. I see empty seats and just think "I wish the club would just let me buy one of those seats right now, rather than each bloody game".
That said, it's our first season in the league. A lot of people in this City are used to supporting the big teams, and that's to be expected. And the "plastics"? Well they're the ones we want if the club is going to keep growing, folks - give them a while and they'll be as in love with the Bluebirds as everyone else in the stands.
I have no problem increasing the stadium capacity (partly cos as a Gold Member I can get my bloody season ticket back next year!), as it's a decision made with one eye on the future. Even if we go down and can't fill it, I'd rather know we've got 33k seats ready for our next time in the league, than 28k.

Annis, where do you get this from -the only one of those games which you could have bought a ticket for was West Brom -any part of this was due to people not knowing there were spare tickets. The others were all sold out well in advance. 3 of these 4 games we had extra tickets to sell as well due to the away allocation not selling out.
As for ST holders not turning up - that has always happened, here and everywhere else.
I remember reading that something like 10-20% of Man u season ticket seats are left empty.
If we go down we won't sell most of the extra seats, but if we are to compete we need to ensure we have facilities to match the top sides. if the product is there we will sell them easily - what was the waiting list ? 10k I think I saw quoted.
If we go down then the stadium is ready for when we come back up. Who cares if there are a few empty seats in the meantime.

I don't see the point at the moment - we would be down to 20,000 or less if we got relegated. Additionally, where are all these extra punters going to park - its hell on earth trying to get out of the car park as it is

I honestly believed years ago that if we got into the premier league we could fill the stadium twice over & rugby would hardly make any headlines but i have to be honest & say i'm dissapointed with our support & also the media coverage, empty seats are visible at most home games & rugby still gets good coverage. When the novelty of the first season wears off (if we stay up) our actual crowds for some of the less glamorous sides will dip below 20,000.Building a extra tier will just show off the empty seats even more,i honestly believe the stadium is big enough as it is.

Great it will show his incompetency up yet again He can afford it . I just hate him and everything he stands for now. He is not only making us laughing stock , he is making the EPL look stupid as well for letting it happen.

Temme made himself an enemy but like you say "He was Probably Right".
"Cherry Pick big Games"
This is all hypothetical now...
Do you honestly think if Cardiff had a squad of superstars and were competing at the high end of the premier league and European competitions we would struggle to fill our ground? Personally I think the opposite.

We are a Ex hooligan club without a history of football. Its going to take time.
Going down the city always said something about you, and it was not conventional. Its only recently that we have received favorable press. In the championship we did a very good job of getting into the schools and getting kids interested in the city with great promotions. I ended my 10 year sabbatical when my nipper came back with a free entry with an adult voucher she got in school after a school session with the coaching staff she loved it and the last three season hasn't missed a game.
We need to go bigger if we stay in the premier as we will miss a generation. The Jacks are finding this....

I will tell you my take on it , I genuinely think the little man thought we would be in top 4 at the end of this season. Thats what he knows about the game.

Tim,
First of all its our first season in 51 years, rem 51 years, surely every home game all the seats should have bums on, " not cherry picked "
Tim, We never sold out Newcastle/WBA and yest the seats were not sold out in section 118 in Ninian Stand.
Then surely you could see for yourself, WBA,Southampton and yesterday all those empty seats, all because it was not Manchester United, well what happens when we play Hull, Norwich, Stoke, Palace even West Ham ect home ?
Sun Dec 29, 2013 12:04 pm
I thought there was a waiting list for season tickets?
If that's the case then the extra seats would be filled by those.....

Annis do you think he should waste 25 million on players in January trying to keep us up. If you were in his position and getting the abuse he gets I'm sure you would stop the expansion and not spend money in January.
That's the problem with our fans spent yesterday abusing tan instead of supporting the team but January the first this board will be full of speculation as to who we are signing and the majority abusing tan will want him to spend that 25 million.
