Cardiff City 'only have one target' in hunt for new manager despite rumours prime candidate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could turn down job

Chairman Mehmet Dalman refused to confirm or deny he has held discussions with the former Manchester United star but insisted he only has one target

Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman tonight insisted he only has one man in mind to become Cardiff City manager despite rumours number one target Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could turn down the chance to become Malky Mackay's successor.

Dalman addressed the media in the immediate aftermath of the Bluebirds' heartbreaking 2-2 draw with relegation rivals Sunderland, insisting no formal offer has been made to any of the prospective candidates.

And he once again moved to rule out an approach for Turkish manager Yilmaz Vural, despite his agent consistently linking him with a move to the Welsh capital.

Dalman believes a new manager will be in place within five to 10 days, and he confirmed David Kerslake, who was Malky Mackay's assistant, will be in charge of the team against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on New Year's Day.

Former Manchester United star Solskjaer is understood to be the man Dalman wants, but pundits in Norway, including former player Jan Aage Fjortoft, insist he is unlikely to accept the role.

Solskjaer has led Norwegian side Molde to consecutive league titles since becoming first team manager in 2011.

Dalman said: "I am not getting a Turkish manager - I want to make that clear.

"Some Turkish manager seems to think he wants to push himself forward as a prospective Cardiff manager, but that won't happen.

"I hope to be standing here in five to 10 days talking to the media. Right now I want to concentrate on getting a new manager in."

Kerslake was in charge of the Cardiff team for the 2-2 draw, and Dalman said: "David is a good pro. He has taken on the responsibility.

"David will be in charge against Arsenal and we are grateful to him for that."

Dalman revealed that nobody has been offered the job so far, but revealed talks have taken place.

Solskjaer has been touted as hot favourite with bookmakers for the job and Dalman said: "I have spoken to him many times in the old days and may, or may not, have spoken to him recently.

"Right now there are few people ruled out and nobody ruled in. I have only had 24 hours to think about this. These things take time and we will work diligently.

"I hope people are patient on this for a little longer.

"I have not made an offer to anybody as such, but that does not mean I have not had discussions.

"I do, though, have only one candidate in mind."

That's the only real name mentioned consistently. I was told today that Tan wants a high profile Manager, is Ole Gunner a high profile Manager, I suppose so?

Tan shook hands with DJ Ian for him to come in as interim manager.

Dalman appears to be the guy who persuaded Tan it would be the wrong choice.

Might not have been a bad idea.

If he wants a name pay the money and get Huddink

Huddink was brilliant at Chelsea, would be too high profile though surely, and could get much better jobs....

I don't think now is the right time for Solskjaer. We're in a real dogfight at the minute, something truly alien to him. His he mentally tough enough to keep us up?

This Dalman fella seems to be a good fella from the way he's been conducting things recently.

Looks like he'll be the key in getting The right stability for the new manager.

Hopefully, with more time he could stop any knee jerk actions from Tan with regards to the football side of things.

OGS would certainly get the 'big name' tag.

But, he's not got the experience in this type of relegation fight......and more importantly, spending a huge load of cash in a January window on a couple of key players.

But, his contacts in the game could open up a raft of loan options, and his winning experience could rub off on the entire squad.

Overall......I'd like to see him here.

Seeing how Malky was treated, Would any established manager risk a relationship with Tan?

Would any up and coming manager want a contract with Vincent Tan? I can see this going the way of Blackburn. No f*cker wanting to touch us without a fortune upfront so the chairman promotes from within. until we get that f*cking YTS painter in the dug out.

Dalman has got a bit of time. Nobody expects anything from the Arsenal game, and then there's the FA Cup. Does anybody fancy a cup run this year?

I heard things were uncomfortable at CCS just before Moodygate. I was told that a new manager was being look at and this Bielsa was the guy. I had never heard of him so out of curiosity checked it out. When I read he was an ex international manager of Chile and a friend of Medal I thought the lunatics had taken over the asylum specially as Malky was going "nowhere".

Times like this I wish I was a betting man.

Bielsa would be the best option for us. Plus I feel that the first 75 minutes today have proved he wouldn't need a massive overhaul to get us playing his style of football, as we played a very high tempo game, much like his former sides have played under him.

well he'd definitely need a winger or two, attacking midfielder and a striker!

We need someone a bit ruthless in my opinion! I have watch far too many games recently where certain players have not performed and yet they are picked week in week out..

Was (IMHO) Malky's biggest failing...and one or two of those were culpable at the end yesterday versus Sunderland :(

On balance, though, I still prefer that he (Malky) was still our manager :ayatollah:
