Cardiff City v Sunderland

UPDATED

For the sunderland game tomorrow

David Kerslake and Joe McBride will take charge of Cardiff for Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash with Sunderland after Malky Mackay was relieved of his duties.

Kerslake has served as Mackay's assistant manager at the Bluebirds, while McBride holds the role of first-team coach.

The decision was confirmed by the club in a statement which read: "David Kerslake and Joe McBride will be taking charge of the team for the match against Sunderland on Saturday December 28th at Cardiff City Stadium."

Kerslake recently stood in for Mackay at a heated press conference when the Scot's future was under intense scrutiny.

On Friday, Mackay left the club after two-and-a-half years in charge of the Bluebirds.

Managerless Cardiff City will begin life without Malky Mackay on Saturday when they host Sunderland in the Barclays Premier League, after the Scot was relieved of his duties on Friday.

Cardiff, who sit in 16th place, are four points ahead of their visitors and, following Thursday's 3-0 home defeat by Southampton, have won once in eight top-flight games and will come up against a Sunderland side who have kept three league clean sheets in a row.

Gus Poyet's men have endured a miserable year, narrowly avoiding relegation last season under former head coach Paolo Di Canio, and winning only three times in the current Barclays Premier League campaign. However, they enjoyed a surprise 1-0 win over Everton on Boxing Day and will seek to end 2013 on a positive against another club involved in the relegation shake-up.

Ki Sung-Yueng was the man who scored the all-important goal and the Swansea City loanee will look to make it three goals in four Sunderland games on his return to Wales.

The head-to-head record makes pleasant reading for those travelling from the north-east, with Sunderland winning on their last two visits to Cardiff. However, Ki's penalty at Goodison Park was Sunderland's first goal on the road since August and
Poyet will no doubt remain concerned by his side's scoring struggles away from home.

He has no fresh injury concerns as John O'Shea could make a return from his shoulder injury although defensive partner Wes Brown remains suspended.

CARDIFF TEAM NEWS

Cardiff midfielder Gary Medel is hopeful of returning to the side after sitting out the Boxing Day defeat by Southampton with flu.

Craig Bellamy misses out because of a knee injury, but there are no new injury concerns.

SUNDERLAND TEAM NEWS

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is without the suspended Wes Brown, while fellow defender John O'Shea could again be absent with a shoulder injury.

Keiren Westwood and Carlos Cuellar remain on the sidelines.

Really hope our players step up to the plate now and show some fighting spirit. We really do need a win, after all thats gone on. Im backing our players to show some metal and get us a win 3-1. They have it all to prove, with a new manager coming in. No sulking. No feeling sorry for yourselves. Just get out there and put a shift in lads. COME'ON

Again, I would go with the side Kev has suggested - that 11 is what I would like to see, with the two up front. I think the reason we suffered against Saints is because we sorely missed Medel.

In spite of all this talk of the finances on the Cornelius deal, a few 10 minute sub appearances hasn't told us enough about how good he is - he needs the same run of games as Odemwingie in my opinion, before we can judge...

Co-ordinated Malky Mackay protest on the 27th minute... stewards straight in to pounce on banner which is passed among fans.

You may take the banners but you cant run away Tan , you opened can of worms. I hope we win tonight for MALKY MACKAY :)

We have had at least 4 on target now, good stuff. We are lucky Marshal made that open goal save. This game is far from over and I hope we don't have to regret not converting those chances. :?
