Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay set for judgement day as Vincent Tan prepares to meet manager and fans
Friday 27thDec 2013

The Bluebirds manager is set to be summoned to meet owner Tan as a shocking home defeat to Southampton plunges his future into further doubt

Cardiff City face a defining 48 hours in the club's history as under-fire owner Vincent Tan prepares to meet with manager Malky Mackay and supporters following more than three months of off-field turmoil.

The Malaysian is set to come face-to-face with Mackay either today or tomorrow, less than a fortnight after demanding the Scot 'resign or be sacked' in a now infamous email.

Mackay was given a stay of execution last weekend after chairman Mehmet Dalman succeeded in convincing Tan to enter into peace talks with the manager 'for the good of the club'.

Those talks will now take place with Mackay's position significantly weakened following Boxing Day's meek surrender against Southampton - a 3-0 defeat that saw Tan fail to emerge in the directors' box for the second half.

Mackay could be summoned to a meeting later on Friday with Tan also meeting members of the Supporters' Trust ahead of the televised clash with rock-bottom Sunderland.

It remains to be seen if there is a way of finding a resolution between the warring owner and manager, or if Tan will simply decide to wield the axe.

Hundreds of fans gathered outside Cardiff City Stadium ahead of the Southampton match to voice their disapproval at Tan's running of the club.

Phil Nifield, of the Trust, said: "We have got a meeting with Vincent Tan which was arranged before the e-mail debacle came public and that will take place on Saturday.

"We are hoping that will lead to a much better dialogue with the fans. We strongly believe he needs to rebuild a relationship with the fans and one way of doing that would be to announce that from next season we will be returning to play in blue.

"I think he has a lot to do to get the fans back on his side. We were delighted with his financial support, but this issue with Malky...Malky has done a fantastic job and has the support of the fans and we need to pull together."

Defeat against Gus Poyet's side would plunge Cardiff into the relegation zone ahead of a daunting January fixture list that sees them travel to Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United.

And a rough run results against some of the giants of the Premier League would leave Cardiff facing a dogfight for survival over the final months of the season.

Following the grim Boxing Day loss, Mackay was asked if he thought his own situation was affecting his team's performances.

"I'm certainly not going to make any excuses at all as far as that is concerned," he said. "People can draw their own conclusions. Myself, the staff and the players are fully focused on what we do on a Saturday or any given game day."

Malky Mackay urges his team forward against Southampton

But the Scot also insisted he still did not know when he will hold crunch talks with Tan and Dalman which could decide his future.

Mackay revealed earlier this week that Tan had rejected two requests for the duo and Dalman to meet in an attempt to reconcile their differences.

But when asked if an official date had been set, Mackay said: "Not as far as I'm aware. I've not been told of any meeting. I don't usually talk to him (Tan) on a game day. That's not something that normally happens. I usually speak to other people.

"I was informed we would try to have a meeting but there has been nothing to this point."

Sadly MM needs to go fast! Please lets get some of this sycophantic hysteria out of our system, he's a lovely fella, he's been treated deplorably by a dick...tator and I wish him well for the future but he doesn't cut the mustard just yet.

However, you're bang on. The real abiding issue is the rebrand and the 'Peace In Our Time' stance of many in our midst; many not even Cardiff City fans.

I fear for something of a logical progression here culminating in a nightmarish endgame:

Cardiff City (Blue) - Cardiff City (Red) - Cardiff Dragons (Red) - Kuala Lumpur Dragons (Red)! And lots of 'home' games played at the spanking new, majestic Berjaya Stadium in downtown KL.

We have Tan on the ropes. In the eyes of his country people, his is being humiliated from all sides.Even the great and powerful in Malaysia are begining to distance themselves from who they see as a cock up merchant.Tan is teetering on the edge.Lets keep pushing until he plunges over that edge and out of our lives. :malky: :ayatollah:

On and off the pitch now we are in deep trouble,Tan needs to create positive energy around the place, the Rebrand issue has got to come to an end Revert back to blue for next season, this mess with Malky has to stop either back him 100% and give funds in jan or if they can't settle their differences he's gotta let him go with the money he deserves!the only man who can turn this situation around is Tan but at this moment in time I bet hes livid but he's created this mess himself in many ways!we need a big burst of positive energy and funds in jan otherwise I can see us going down!we are in a complete mess at the mo!yesterday stressed me out big time!tho give credit where credits due Southampton are a good side but our players are much better than that, its obviously affecting the players now!decisions need to be made and now!

There are two issues here, the re-branding, and the manager.

If Tan were to agree to return to Blue next season, and re-design the badge, with prominence for the bluebird, and to wear blue away for the remainder of this season, wherever possible, that would be a massive gesture of goodwill. We could all start again with a clean sheet. With no recriminations.

As for Malky's position, that is a footballing matter for the board, and owner, to decide. Fans have different opinions about Malky. That was always the case with our managers! We will probably never all agree on that. But don't let the current situation drag on. It is obviously affecting performances on the pitch. How could it possibly not? If Tan wants to sack Malky, then just do it. Face to face, and man to man. No cowardly hiding behind emails. Man-up, and pay the money.

Tan has got it wrong. He needs to realise that our culture is different from Malaysia's. This is, after all, the home of football. He knows what he is doing with the money, and the investment is appreciated, but if needs be, then sell up, and clear off.

Wrong...Tan is here until he sees a sizeable return on his 'investment' (in addition toi the 7%pa interest he currently levies)

A real mess we find the club in and we leave it all to one man to repair.

The problem is he made all the problems and mistakes in the first place so unless Tan wakes up and smells the roses we are doomed as a club.

Sack malky or back im once and for all nothing more to say on that.

Change us back to blue next seaon as its so evident that so many of us dont want this red kit for our club .

In an ideal word the badge would be nice if we had the old one back.

I new all this would come to a head at some point but the problem is I dont see Tan changing anything other than maybe the managers position .He has to no by now that the rebrand is a failure lots of people did embrace and have tried to axcept it but the reality is these fans as much as they have tried they cant do it .

Tan has to now no the rebrand is a failure and was always going to be as ive said so many times if he rebranded any football club in the eu it would be a failure and thats just understanding football like all us fans of football no.

Next 24 hours is important yes but unless these issues are all sorted for the good of ccfc and soon the Tan era will be a failure.

Tan still has time to sort this utter mess out but from what i have seen from him so far the mess will just get worse .

I REALY HOPE IM WRONG. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
