Police estimated there were at least 1,000 fans involved.

Hundreds of protesters have gathered outside Cardiff City Stadium ahead of the Boxing Day match with Southampton.

Supporters unhappy with club owner Vincent Tan unfurled banners and signs reading "We're Cardiff City, We'll Always Be Blue" and "Tan Out".

Craig Bellamy shook hands with some supporters as he made his way into the ground.

Players like Kevin Theophile Catherine, Ben Turner and Steven Caulker made their way through the crowds into the stadium after arriving at 1pm - the same time the protest was scheduled to take place.

Those demonstrating said they wanted to make their feelings known to Tan, who last week sent an email to manager Malky Mackay telling him to resign or face the sack.

Police estimated there were at least 1,000 fans involved.

Matthew Mills, 36, from Tremorfa in Cardiff, said: "It does feel like we are in a dictatorship. Whatever he (Tan) says happens at the club.

"I have been upset with the change to blue and I missed the full season when we went up from the championship.

"This season has been about Bluebirds Unite getting together and I think the current situation is the straw that's broken the camel's back."

Fans repeatedly sung chants like "Don't sack Mackay" and "We're Cardiff City, We'll Always Be Blue".

Over 1,000 Cardiff City fans protested today.

Even when Man United fans protested out of 75,000 only 2,000-3,000 protested.

I dont care if I had protested on my own.

I turned up for the protest, I was there to voice my dissaproval on how Tan has been running my football club, interesting to note that he was not present for the second half. We are in a relegation battle and events off the field are not helping things.

Regardless of whether there was 500 or 5000, the protest yesterday achieved nothing , like somebody previously stated people who were there didn't even know what they were protesting about ! How come no protest organised for tomorrow ??

It did'nt achieve nothing yet it makes the front page of the echo  Hats off to anyone who has the bollocks to fight what they believe in, it's the easiest thing in the world to criticise from the sidelines.

700 seems to be about the average, if you read various news outlets.
