VINCENT TAN GUARANTEES NO COLOUR OR BADGE CHANGE AT NEW CLUB

Tue Dec 24, 2013 7:02 pm

Tuesday 24th December 2013.

Vincent Tan, the controversial Cardiff City owner, has revealed that he will make big investments in Bosnian football after agreeing to buy FK Sarajevo and institute a cooperation agreement between the two clubs.

Tan has been in talks since earlier in the summer with Sarajevo, who are now official partners of the Premier League club.

Unlike at Cardiff, Tan, recently in the firing line from supporters for his attempt to oust popular manager Malky Mackay, has guaranteed not to change the Bosnian club's badge and colours.

"We want to give players of Sarajevo the opportunity to play in Cardiff City and in the Premier League," the Malaysian-born Tan is quoted as saying by Dnevni Avaz, a Sarajevo-based daily newspaper.

"We also want to build a football academy that will attract the most talented players from all Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will offer them excellent conditions for training and will enable them to play in one of the best leagues in the world.

"Bosnia is full of talents. We have already concluded an agreement on cooperation between the two clubs. Cardiff City will also provide technical support in building an academy, we will play friendlies, exchange players and organise joint training camps."

FK Sarajevo, who are second in the Bosnian league, say the deal precludes any change to their name, emblem or predominantly red colours. Tan has enraged Cardiff supporters by abandoning the club's traditional blue for a red badge and first-choice playing kit.

According to local reports, the billionaire Tan has agreed a price for the purchase of the club, and well as presenting the selling owners with a budget for the current campaign and the 2014-15 season.

The takeover will be finalised at FK Sarajevo's next scheduled board meeting, in February, at which point the Cardiff owner will also be named the owner of the Bosnian club.

There is nothing in Uefa's rule book to prevent owners having a stakeholding in more than one club, providing they do not meet in European competition.

Meanwhile Cardiff supporters, angry at Tan's handling of Mackay following his email last week ordering the manager to resign or face the sack, will stage a pre-match protest against the owner at today's game with Southampton.

Although Tan backtracked on his threat, Cardiff followers will again air their discontent.

Annis Abraham, a Cardiff season ticket holder for more than 40 years, said: “It’s about the last two years – first of all making us a laughing stock by stripping our identity, and in the last three or four months making us a worldwide laughing stock."

It's a shame about our colour change, because everything else tan is doing looks promising for the club. Stadium expansion, new training facilities, vasts amount of money for new signing, and a Bosnian feeder club which in the future could produce quality talent for cardiff as Bosnia is full of talented players.

Does this mean less money for our club, as Tan is going to be responsible for financing two clubs. Could premier league money provided to us be used abroad rather than going towards our costs. Just asking the questions, as not sure how these things work.

A Bosnian club is hardly going to cost much to run

He also has ridonkulous amounts of money in his back pocket. If he wants to spend on Cardiff, he can.

Their stadium has held 60,000 watching this team in the past, so not a small time team like our welsh league sides.

Tan just needs abit of fine tuning to the way we run things over here and things can be a lot better for cardiff city

Why Bosnia? Not exactly a large football nation. A lot like us, rely on one or two good players stopping us becoming one of the worst teams in the world.

Surely somewhere like Russia who have more decent players would be a better option

Yes but hardly an exciting footballing nation are they? Can you really see them being a major name in world football for years to come? I can't

so Yugoslavia have always been crap ?

Probably beat Wales and we have some pretty good players. They must have a few that may improve the team.

and anyway what right have we to say we are not their feeder club ?

Snobs

Yugoslavia was one of the great footballing nations, with some great clubs. Sarajevo and Velez Mostar were the most famous Bosnian ones. They played in the same league as Red Star Belgrade, Partizan Belgrade, Dinamo Zagreb, Hadjuk Split, to name a few.

As for not changing their colours, perhaps Tan has learned a lesson, and won't make the same mistake twice. Too bad that he's not man enough to admit to his mistake with us.

Maybe or maybe not. But we do have players playing in decent clubs throughout Europe: Man City, Stuggart, As Rom, Bayer Leverkusen, Lazio, Schalke, CSKA Moscow, Stoke etc. Not only that, we also lose a ton of players to other countries: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden), Alen Halilovic (Croatia), Marko Marin (Germany), Neven Subotic (Serbia), Samir Handanovic (Slovenia) are just a few that come to mind. Perhaps that changes in the future.

If losing national team players wasn't enough, our league, due to financial instability, also loses talented players. Take Dzeko for example. He was sold for practically nothing (it was either 40k or 80k euros) to the Czech Republic club, FK Teplice. FK Teplice then sold him for 4 million euros to Wolfsburg who then sold him for 37 million euros to Man City. If some these factors change for the better, maybe Bosnia will become a major name in world football.

Fair points, didn't realise you lost so many big players.

Now tell me, are Bosnia worth an outside bet to reach the semis at the World Cup? ;)

Aren't you worried about bias? :)

Objectively, it's not inconceivable but it is unlikely. Put succinctly, our coach does not have what it takes to take on and beat top teams. That's the next level for us and to get us there, we need someone else.

So you value some nation's football quality based on thier result on World Cup ? It's ridiculous.

First of all, our country went through terrible war, and all infrastructure were destroyed. We have no conditions to develop so many great players as you would like to hear.

Because of that, major part of Tan's money will go into infrastructure - so that our talents have conditions to develop in right way.

However, we are not so small, as you think. Half of the Croatian national football team is from Bosnia (Vedran Corluka, Dejan Lovren, Ivan Rakitic, Nikica Jelavic, Alen Halilovic, Mladen Petric) with Darijo Srna and Josip Simunic with Bosnian origins.
Half of Slovenian national team is from Bosnia with Samir Handanovic, Josip Ilicic, Jasmin Kurtic, Zlatko Dedic and Armin Bacinovic some of them.

Probably, our most famous lost player is Zlatan Ibrahimovic playing for Sweden.

Beside that, Neven Subotic plays for Serbia, Marko Marin for Germany, Haris Seferovic and Mario Gavranovic for Switzerland, Marko Arnautovic and Zlatko Junuzovic for Austria.

Now, add that on our currently squad with Dzeko (Manchester City), Begovic (Stoke City), Pjanic (Roma), Lulic (Lazio), Ibisevic (Stuttgart), Mujdza (Freiburg), Spahic (Bayer Leverkusen), Salihovic (Hoffenheim), Kolasinac (Schalke 04), Bicakcic (Eintracht Braunchweig)...

Maybe, we could reach semis.

Tan surley knows what he is doing. There are a lot of talented players here, who can't succeed because they have no conditions.
I am completely sure that this partnership would be successful even if every two years Cardiff find one good young player here.
I believe we are capable do to that, because our new-formed Academy will search for talents across whole Bosnia.

What we expect from Tan is to invest some money in the squad apart from this base investments - so that we can dominate in Bosinan football and maybe reach group stage in some of European competitions.

Changing name, colors and bage is not for discuss. That is signed in contract too.
I believe he would have equal or bigger problems here as he has in Cardiff. We are proud of our history, being in TOP 5 Yugoslovenian football of all time.

This is nothing new in football.

The likes of Man U have a few feeder clubs across the planet. Not long ago Swansea was a feeder club for Liverpool.
