Malky Mackay: Cardiff manager says fans have right to protest

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium Date: Thursday, 26 December Kick-off: 15:00 GMT

Coverage: Live commentary on BBC Radio Wales South East FM; live text updates on the BBC Sport website

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay says fans have every right to protest about his run-in with owner Vincent Tan.
Mackacy was told by Tan last week to resign or be sacked.
That threat has since been lifted and chairman Mehmet Dalman, who is trying to repair the relationship, has asked fans not to display anti-Tan banners at the Southampton game on Boxing Day.
But Mackay said: "What they want to sing and what they want to say is down to themselves."
Dalman told BBC Sport he hoped supporters would not protest.
"If I had one wish for Boxing Day it's that they don't hold up 'Tan Out' or 'Malky In' banners, but rather one that says 'Talk to each other', " he said.

Changed the shirt colours from blue to red and added a red dragon to the club's crest
Removed head of recruitment Iain Moody, and hired 23-year-old Alisher Apsalyamov, who was on work experience at the club and is a friend of his son.
But an issue with Apsalyamov's work visa led to him stepping aside temporarily before he left the club on 21 December
Mackay has admitted he expected to be dismissed after refusing to quit in the wake of Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Liverpool, a result which left the team 15th in the table, four points above the relegation zone.
Tan, a 61-year-old businessman from Malaysia who bought a controlling stake in Cardiff in 2010, was understood to be unhappy at an apparent overspend on players and has also been critical of Cardiff's style of play.
Mackay has now been told he will remain in charge "for the foreseeable future".
"Our fans are the lifeblood of the club," he said. "When I'm gone and the owner is gone, the fans will still be supporting the team.
"They are intelligent people who have got their own opinions about the football club.
"But I know they will get behind the football team like they have always done from the first day I have arrived there."
Dalman wants Tan and Mackay to meet for talks soon, but there has been no indication from the club as to if and when that will happen.
The Bluebirds have two home fixtures over the festive period, with Southampton visiting on Boxing Day before a clash with bottom-of-the-table Sunderland on 28 December.

He really is pushing the boat out to get the sack as soon as possible. I wonder which job he has been offered

Maybe he's just fed up working under a wanker? None of us would take that from a boss so why should he?

Could well be but I am losing a lot of respect for him for using the press to fight his battles . All of this Tan is making us a laughing stock and yet Malky is totally blameless. How the hell did the email get out to the press in the first place. Was it Tan who sent it or Malky who received it. I understand people have their reasons for hating Tan but come on

Well if Tan wasn't being so unreasonable none of this would be going on. They're both fighting their battles the way the see fit. It is making us a laughing stock and I can only see it ending one way. Why has Tan not yet carried out his threat?

Mackay is playing a blinder problem though at the expense of our club. It's obvious he wants away while being paid in full. All these public interviews in the last few days spewing out all the info not his normal style.Backing a potential hyped up protest knowing to be in his favour against the Man paying his wages could be his first bad move. Should have kept that view from the media.

He will hit the right one eventually I guess.

He's lossing respect every interview he's doing the manager is no bigger than any club ,I can see gardening leave coming on untill a club comes in for him ,tan could string him along for the rest of his contract just like he did with Dave Jones

I don't think he's lost any respect. He's been backed into a corner and he's fighting back. Even today the chairman is talking about a new manager. Would you accept that from your bosses? I know I wouldn't. We all know the end is in sight for him and the club have made an absolute arse of the whole thing. They should have paid him off months ago rather than engage in a game of chess that they'll win but costing them a large sum at the same time.

Not if the basis of the complaints were true you wouldn't.

Transfers were irregular, the team isn't playing well, we ain't shooting enough and we have strikers in the squad who we paid loads for and we aren't playing them.

What self respecting boss wouldn't point that out. It's Malky that's making everything public.

He is losing respect, there was no need for the press conference, or for voicing support for a protest, He was told he`ll get his meeting with Tan, he would have been wiser to leave it at that..

I can see how things might look that way, as any manager trying to 'build bridges' with his boss would surely be keeping a low profile during so-called negotiations

As I have said before, I would like Malky to see the job out; however, I am aware of some of the background to what is going on (no more than certain other trusted people on here, mind ;) ) and I cannot see anything other than a 'parting of the ways' very soon if I am honest

Sad, but that's how it will be

Why, do you think Tan is going to back down? I don't. Dead man walking so to speak. He's bang on about the fans protesting too, as long as they are still backing the guys on the pitch. The bigger picture is Malky is on his way regardless so good on him for having a pop back. I'd do exactly the same in his shoes and so would anyone else.

Malky l believe is looking to go with a nice little pay off asap. If he really valued the job he certainly would not be agreeing with a protest which he knows is in his favour. He would be saying something like. "I understand that the owner is speaking with the trust soon and any protests should be left until after that mee
ting." He's for sure lost my respect but why would that worry him.

He's looking for what is rightly his. No matter who Tan meets with, I find it hard to believe there is any way back for them. The sooner it's all over the better. Personally I'd rather the manager stayed but I can't see it.

Some excellent posts on this thread.
This email would have been leaked to the press by Malky, but we have yet to see the actual contents have we. While I'm certainly not pro Tan it's obvious that Malky is using the situation to get out, West Ham is my guess. The only loyalty in football is that of the fans to their club and Malky is using our loyalty to the club to force the sacking.

I find it strange that a business man like Tan would put threats in writing, knowing that it could be used against him at a later date..Its a weird one..

Exactly, the anti-Tan feeling amongst supporters has been used brilliantly by Malky to manoeuvre his departure from the club with all the blame placed on the unpopular Tan. What he's doing is unforgivable, using the fans loyalty to get at the owner.

Malky looking to preserve his reputation before inevitably moving on. He knows he'll always be loved down here when he brings his WHU into town. Mind you, I bet he'll check out his new club's owners' psychological condition very carefully before signing anything.

Tan is going to do the cold storage management. He will pay Malky the usual wages and ask him to do nothing.
He got plenty of money and can do all the other football stuff eg Sarajevo while Malky would suffer in frustrations every day.
In the end, live or die, it is up to the fans to decide for themselves.

when the rebrand happened he called for fans to get behind tan and be peaceful, he understood the frustration and asked us to get behind the club but now after shit he has had last few weeks now he says we have a right to protest

Tan is purposely not meeting up with Malky to keep him on tenderhooks. He will be neither here nor there. In the end, Malky would find himself nowhere and he did not know what hit him. For a guy like Tan who can pledge GBP 120million to charity in 2012, donating to NGOs from animal welfare groups to education development in Philippines, he can be a very hard yet caring man. It be a big mistake to under estimate this guy.
Tan just has too many global businesses to be bogged down by one guy who think he is indispensible.

Malky has also said in the latest interview that we need to invest more to stay in Premier League - that would put us as in the Top 10 spenders in Premier League over the past 2 years!

How much money does he want to have thrown at him constantly?
