I just think at this level we'd get taking apart
Mon Dec 23, 2013 3:34 pm
well yes you can of course.

It's not working for Poyet !

I dont think anyone is asking for all out attack with a total disregard for defence but to not score any goals, and hardly muster any chances in 4 away games against teams arounds us at the time, well thats just poor in my opinion.

And not to show any urgency when the counter was on is also poor I think.

we are capable of attacking sides and putting them under pressure.
there is no reason we shouldn't go to away games and play to win. it worked against man utd and 2nd half at liverpool away we get back into the game.
if we had that penalty given to us and it went to 3-2 we could of got a draw back

This.
We've proved we can attack and score against the best in the league. We've also proved we can get back and defend for our lives. Why not both? It has to be two up front at the very least, when we talk about attacking and taking chances. With just the one man, we make a chance now and again but most of the forward passes don't even find a City player.

A decent change of personnel would help too. Come on Corny you beaut!

Of course you can - we did and continue to do it.
Your issue is that Malky has bought for defence not for attack. Cornelius screams out hoofball and your other two big signings are Caulker who is a center back and Medel who is pretty much another.

Even hoofball is more attacking than keep-ball in your own half and passing it between centre halves and GK.

Its very unusual. Reading did it but they had an exceptional squad at the time. Survival is the aim.....however we do it.

For me Southampton are the team for us to follow, play good football and have a good british core to them

Its a myth. If we kept doing that we would never score and in fact we did - often.
A sideways or backward pass can be more attacking than a forward one. Depends what that pass does. Each pass has a purpose for us and it is to pull the opposition around, creating space.
We scored 71 goals in our first season which is 1.86 goals a game, most coming as a direct result of our football (open play), 75 innour second season which is 1.97 goals a game an this season we have 40 in 17 which is 2.35 goals a game.
So far you have 13 goals in 17 games which is 0.76 goals a game, half of which are from set pieces.
Thats quite a diffrence.

Swansea managed it alright. So have southampton . Two perfect examples then of teams who play good football with attacking players. I wish whittingham would f**k off from the wing and probably not good enough to plate centre mid either now and hope i don't see don cowie in the starting 11 all season again
