West brom eye joe mason AGAIN

Mon Dec 23, 2013 3:07 pm

West Brom made a fresh check on Cardiff City forward Joe Mason at the weekend as he bids to impress while on loan at Bolton Wanderers. The Baggies sent a top-level spy to the Reebok Stadium where Mason, 22, started for the struggling Trotters in their Championship clash against Charlton, which finished 1-1. The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was a regular for Cardiff City two seasons ago, scoring nine league goals in 25 starts for the Bluebirds and grabbing a stunning goal in the Carling Cup final against Liverpool. He also scored against West Brom in the FA Cup third round that season as Cardiff went down 4-2 and his progress has been followed by Albion scouts in the past two years. But Mason has not found starts easy to come by at the Cardiff City Stadium this term and was sent out on loan by under-fire boss Malky Mackay in November. He scored on his second appearance for Bolton against Doncaster last month, but did not find the back of the net on Saturday and was replaced with just over ten minutes to go. In April 2012 Mason extended his contract with Cardiff until 2016, but he has started only 12 league games for the club in the past 18 months.
