So, going into Christmas..

Sun Dec 22, 2013 5:54 pm

and the team we are told are light years ahead of us, are just three points ahead of us, and we beat them 1 - 0.
This is with all the side shows we are having too. :D

Re: So, going into Christmas..

Like your just 4 point ahead of Palace who also beat you :D

We have played nearly 30 games this year already and its not even Xmas... Now THAT is a sideshow :D

Ok fair enough.

However we are a club playing in European competition with a major trophy in the bank in the Premier League era with a top 9 finish and there or there abouts again halfway into our 3rd consecutive season here.

I think you are light years away from that personally.

Yes you won the Micky mouse cup and the Europa league was the result, not a separate achievement. Probably a one off like when birmingham won it or Wigan winning the FA cup last season. It doesnt make you world beaters and I can't see how that puts you lights years ahead.

As for this being your 3rd season, I'd say we were 2 years away from that as opposed to light years

Had we won the Mickey Mouse cup would we be where we are now?

Micky Mouse trophy? The League Cup you mean?

You have to ACTUALLY get the achievement in order to say you have achieved it. You cant say you are 3 years away when it may take you 103 years to get 3 successive premier league seasons. Let alone 2 mid table finishes and a mid table Xmas spot in the 3rd.

We have never been in a dogfight in 3 seasons. I cant envisage a scenario where you guys can say that any time soon.

I said you won the cup. The Europa followed. 2 parts of the same achievement. Not sure how it represents light years when we drew the final against Liverpool (not league 1) only to lose on pens, when we were a championship side.

League wise you've had what 46pts? A couple of wins from the edge of the relegation zone so hardly romping the league.

Don't get me wrong I'd take 17th place at seasons end but don't delude yourself that somehow you're one of the best teams in the PL. You're cannon fodder for the big boys like the rest of us.

Okay then, we won a major cup and find ourselves in the last 32 of European competition. I cant see you lot doing that in my lifetime.

46 pts yes. Usually about 10 points clear which taken on form of the bottom clubs - they would need and extra quarter of a season of more games than us to drag us down there - thats pretty safe :D

Ive never thought we were on of the best teams in the PL. however I believe we are one of the best, if not, the best outside the top 7-8. Again, i dont see you boys laying claim to that any time soon either.

Re: So, going into Christmas..

Of course anything is possible.

Once you do it then you can prove people wrong. At the moment you have not won a major trophy in the Premier League era, you have not been mid table/top 10 in the premier league 2 and a half seasons running and havent got to the last 32 of European competition in the Premier League era.

Do that, and I will agree with you.

I havent said we will win the FA Cup

We have achieved so much under our current regime - if you are indeed to make a case that you are of similar level then you mist of course go some way to achieving what we have. This is only common sense.

Otherwise its like me saying, United aren't way better because they couldn't beat us in one fixture last year and in 25 years time we may have 25 premier league titles and 20 champions leagues.... Unless we do it, its just words.

Beating you is not a priority in anyway shape or form. Man City didnt and they are doing ok.

Re: So, going into Christmas..

Sun Dec 22, 2013 7:41 pm

We have only scored 13 goals in the league also. Only palace and sunderland have scored less. 11 and 12.

Not exactly a display of confidence. We still need to find goals from somewhere. Imagine we have an injury or suspension at the back

No you didn't mention the FA Cup, I did. The jacks usually avoid mentioning that.

The fact is, last year the jacks were telling us we were light years behind them, when in fact, in reality, more could be achieved in just a season or too.

I have no issue talking about the FA cup and fully aware you won it in 1927, but I'm also aware that has no baring on the difference in the sides today.

They are saying that indeed. And they are and were correct in my opinion.

You keep saying "could be achieved" - yet surely you understand that unless you DO achieve it then this conversation is futile. So far it looks like you wont as you sit in the bottom 5 struggling to score.

We are 3 points above you yes, we are below par in the league this year due to our European commitments. Fr you to have that luxury, again tou will have to achieve what we have.

We were in the last 4 of cup winners cup in 1968 as a second division side
.You will never beat that record.

And that has a baring in your current side how exactly?

We are talking how far behind you currently are from us - as far as im aware no player that played in the 1968 side plays for you - would I be right?

You are currently way behind us as we are an established mid table prem team, have a major trophy in the cabinet which the current squad earned and are competing in the latter stages of european competition.

You.... Are not.

Its that simple.

How many were you expecting us to be ahead by at the halfway stage then?

Double the points defecit so far and put us on our usual mid 40 points tally and you have yourself a relegation team and mid table one - just as expected.

Man Utd are 4 points ahead of Sothampton, Man City are 4 points ahead of Everton.

Both are also light years ahead of their counterpart.

My OP mentioned the fact that you are only three points above us in the league.
If, you were in fact light years ahead of us, as mentioned by quite a few jacks on here the last few seasons,
you would be a lot more that that.
If you can't see the logic in that...well :o

Simples.
