Malky Mackay.

Thu Dec 19, 2013 9:29 pm

When he joined the club there were 10 Paid Professionals at the Club.
That season many of the clubs Supporters and the pundits who followed the Championship predicted a mid table finish at best. Malky Wheeled and Dealed his way through the campaign displaying passion and a calm persona. His professionalism shone on and off the pitch and plaudits poured in from all sides. He took Cardiff to the League cup final where they were in a whisker of beating one of the most successful teams this country has ever seen and lifting the clubs first major honour since 1927. The following season he mades further additions to the team and with a steel and determination to take that extra step. They did that with some to spare.Winning the league with games to spare they won praise and rightly took there place amongst the elite in the country.
Winning the first ever Welsh Premier League Derby and one step in becoming the first team ever to claim a league double in the history of the fixture.

However according to Sri Tan Vincent the Clubs controversial owner, he has underachieved.

People who say Malky has had lots to spend should remember how well we did in his first season with a small budget. He's been the best City manager in my 3 decades watching the club. Time to go Mr Tan.

You say that, but he spent the most (net spending) in league. I wouldnt say he wheeled and dealed. You had a £1.5m striker purchase playing in the reserves.

We didn't spend such money on anyone in Malky's first season. He did wheel and deal in his first season then proceeded to spend 10m his following season.

Neither did anyone else in the league from memory in that season - maybe Leicester aside. That team still consisted of Marshall, Taylor, Hudson, Turner, Whittingham and Cowie. He spent a million on Kenny Miller too. You finished 6th from memory which is where you always seemed to finish, it wasnt spectacular - especially post Xmas, the form was awful.

Last season the football was awful and again post Xmas the form was not good, yet nobody in the top 6 could buy a win and take advantage. I was on here last year and week after week people couldnt understand how you had come away with victories, i think only Blackburn away caused a smile in terms of performance from memory... And that is with spending the most in the league.

This year £50m later and the performances are still bad and wins are few and far between. Im afraid i dont get the Malky love in. Woth the cash hes been subjected to (maybe £65m in 18 months) you would have thought he could muster a side worthy of trying to get on the fromt foot.

Im not having a go here but just being honest. It was clear you needed a whole squad when you got here and he wasted all the money on 3 players?! That strategy is not one of a canny manager.
