Cardiff and Hull chiefs have got it wrong, says QPR chairman Fernandes
By West London Sport
Thursday 19th December 2013.
QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has said he is keen to avoid the kind of acrimony caused by the rebranding of Cardiff City and Hull City.
Cardiff owner Vincent Tan upset Bluebirds fans by changing the team’s home colour from blue to red, while Hull supremo Assem Allam has caused anger by seeking to change the club’s name to Hull Tigers.
In an interview with Reuters, Fernandes said: “I take a different approach to life. I like to talk to my fans, I like to get their feedback.
“I don’t think we have had a single fan against our [stadium] move, because we have managed it differently.
“I am in the pub with the fans, I am in the stands with the fans. Although they may not physically own the club, the fans are part of the club. Without them there is no club, so I think their views have to be taken into consideration.
“I’d love to change (the kit) to red but we bought a club that’s blue, so we’ll stick with blue.
“I think QPR is a unique name but it’s like buying Harrods, why do you want to change it?”

But if he bought us would he change the colour, after all he said he'd love to change the colour to Red but he bought a club that was blue, in our case we are a club that is red no matter what the fans think.

I wouldn't bet on that. He seems quite sensible and appreciates and realises the importance of listening to the fanbase.

That's the most interesting part of his piece. WHY would he love to change the kit to red? Another Malaysian/far east business men, who see's value in playing in a red kit. Is it just a personal thing for these guys i.e good luck and all that or is the Red kit genuinely a big marketing advantage on the global stage?

i love our blue, have done since a child..........but there is no getting away from the fact red is a far more visual colour..these people didnt grow up loving the club as it is.........its just packaging to them...

I don't think it's just a case that Red is more visual than blue, there has to be a lot more to it than that, for Fernandez to come out with that statement.

Stating the obvious but he's of course correct.

Yes, can you imagine what our lot would have been like if we had gone through the shit that QPR have whilst under ownership of Fernandez ? You have some on here, who still want Ninian Park back

Agree, reading Redknapps book exposes what state the club was in when he got there to pick up the pieces. TF is clueless regards football hence why his approaches to buy us were rebuffed as well as it involved alot of " financial loans " etc rather like those I guess of VT. Malaysians just don't get football and remember successful Malay people are used to getting their own way as well as often greasing palms and so forth , nations are rife with corruption etc.
Rodgers got it bang on in a polite way.

Can slate Tony Fernandez for his mistakes at QPR but he listens to the fans and tries to engage a bond with them to listen to their views.
Considering he might not know a lot at least he makes the effort.

He also seems to be learning very quickly. Latest is that he is going to put to vote to the supporters about a change of badge, possibly back to the old one, rather than the hated one brought in by Briatore. This and the new stadium plans, which actually seems to involve a regeneration of part of west London worth billions and he certainly has his head screwed on. Regular pops into local pubs before and after games to chat with supporters and has so far been very open and honest and apologetic where necessary, acknowledging his own errors. I do believe that the change to red quote was firmly tongue in cheek.

Fully spot on and I heard about the local pubs before and after games, know a QPR fan who told me this.
It's great to see a owner/chairman so eager to learn about the Sport and also engage with the heart and soul of the club which is the supporters. Seems an alright guy.
