" I've done nothing wrong! " Mackay won't back down as Cardiff transfer row escalates
By IAN LADYMAN
Tuesday 17th December 2013
Beleaguered Cardiff manager Malky Mackay believes he has done nothing wrong after the club’s owner Vincent Tan attacked him publicly for talking about his hopes for the January transfer window.
Mackay’s position at the South Wales club looks shakier than ever after Tan – in a statement issued by chief executive Simon Lim – accused the 42-year-old of placing pressure on the newly-promoted club by asking for money to spend.
However it is understood that Mackay is adamant that he has done nothing wrong and was merely responding to reporters’ questions in the wake of Saturday’s Barclays Premier League win over West Brom. It is also understood that the exact nature of the exchanges was recorded on tape at the time.
War of words: Malky Mackay has been told he will not be able to spend in January by Vincent Tan.
Explosive: Simon Lim released a statement accusing Mackay of raising supporters' expectations
A source close to the situation said: 'The manager has been asked these questions about January a number of times over the last three weeks, just as all Premier League managers are at this time of year.
'Malky was merely responding to those questions about areas the team may need strengthening. He certainly wasn’t making any demands of the owner of anything like that and the content and direction of the conversations with journalists indicate that.
'He is comfortable with that he said and certainly hasn’t taken anything for granted in terms of what may or may not happen in the transfer market in January.'
The statement on Monday read: '‘Tan Sri Vincent Tan was extremely upset to read quotes from the manager concerning the possibility of new recruits, before he had been informed whether funds would be made available. He believes that doing so unfairly raises supporter expectations, placing unnecessary pressure on the club.
Progress: Cardiff have made a promising start to life in the Premier League, lying 15th in the table.
‘His view is that due to the funds already committed, including the originally authorised summer transfer budget of £35m that rose to £50m in total, including add-ons, the manager has been fully supported.
‘The overspending of £15m has upset Tan Sri greatly, resulting in the removal on Iain Moody as head of recruitment. As such, he has stated that not a single penny will be made available in January.
‘Having been the highest spending promoted club and the seventh highest spender in the Premier League last summer, the owner believes that the Manager has been given the best possible chance of retaining our Premier League status.’
Tan’s latest extraordinary move follows his decision to remove Cardiff’s head of recruitment Iain Moody from the club for an alleged £15m overspend on players in the summer. It would appear the Cardiff owner is attempting to force Mackay to resign from his post, something that the Scot has already indicated will not happen.
Tan may yet have to sack Mackay if he wants him out, something that would be expensive and also unpopular given that the former Watford and West Ham defender would appear to be on course to guiding Cardiff to Premier League survival in the club’s first year back in the top flight.
you couldn,t make this up
here is a bloke with dubious buisness dealings who has changed your kit on a whim and replaced it with a low buget man utd one with a badge off a bag of cement moaning cos malky said he would like to strenghten in a few areas.note the word like not will.bit late for tan to get all touchy feely after ripping the heart out of his fanbase by his actions.

His football is awful to watch but 17 points is a decent total. He has no eye for a striker and entertainment is not high on his list. His teams work hard but its not enough in the premiership. Cheers for everything, but on to the next one.

agree with all this except the striker bit.....he has signed some pretty good strikers, just has no idea how to play to strengths
