" I've done nothing wrong! " Mackay won't back down as Cardiff transfer row escalates
By IAN LADYMAN

Tuesday 17th December 2013

Beleaguered Cardiff manager Malky Mackay believes he has done nothing wrong after the club’s owner Vincent Tan attacked him publicly for talking about his hopes for the January transfer window.

Mackay’s position at the South Wales club looks shakier than ever after Tan – in a statement issued by chief executive Simon Lim – accused the 42-year-old of placing pressure on the newly-promoted club by asking for money to spend.
However it is understood that Mackay is adamant that he has done nothing wrong and was merely responding to reporters’ questions in the wake of Saturday’s Barclays Premier League win over West Brom. It is also understood that the exact nature of the exchanges was recorded on tape at the time.

War of words: Malky Mackay has been told he will not be able to spend in January by Vincent Tan.

Explosive: Simon Lim released a statement accusing Mackay of raising supporters' expectations

A source close to the situation said: 'The manager has been asked these questions about January a number of times over the last three weeks, just as all Premier League managers are at this time of year.
'Malky was merely responding to those questions about areas the team may need strengthening. He certainly wasn’t making any demands of the owner of anything like that and the content and direction of the conversations with journalists indicate that.
'He is comfortable with that he said and certainly hasn’t taken anything for granted in terms of what may or may not happen in the transfer market in January.'
The statement on Monday read: '‘Tan Sri Vincent Tan was extremely upset to read quotes from the manager concerning the possibility of new recruits, before he had been informed whether funds would be made available. He believes that doing so unfairly raises supporter expectations, placing unnecessary pressure on the club.

Progress: Cardiff have made a promising start to life in the Premier League, lying 15th in the table.

‘His view is that due to the funds already committed, including the originally authorised summer transfer budget of £35m that rose to £50m in total, including add-ons, the manager has been fully supported.
‘The overspending of £15m has upset Tan Sri greatly, resulting in the removal on Iain Moody as head of recruitment. As such, he has stated that not a single penny will be made available in January.
‘Having been the highest spending promoted club and the seventh highest spender in the Premier League last summer, the owner believes that the Manager has been given the best possible chance of retaining our Premier League status.’

Tan’s latest extraordinary move follows his decision to remove Cardiff’s head of recruitment Iain Moody from the club for an alleged £15m overspend on players in the summer. It would appear the Cardiff owner is attempting to force Mackay to resign from his post, something that the Scot has already indicated will not happen.

Tan may yet have to sack Mackay if he wants him out, something that would be expensive and also unpopular given that the former Watford and West Ham defender would appear to be on course to guiding Cardiff to Premier League survival in the club’s first year back in the top flight.

I don't think he has done anything wrong. For this so-called 'statement' by Lim to become public is pretty shocking, really.

Simon Lim needs to go he's the weak link in the board, Dalman seems the man who has held everything together for the moment.

What manager would want to go anywhere near our club at the moment!!

Seems to me like Malky and tan don't even communicate

They need to meet and thrash it out and quickly

Hey I'm not taking sides with anyone here; I've posted previously that everyone (and I mean everyone) at the club has some responsibility for this increasingly serious crisis! Its us poor fans that bear the brunt of it if it all turns to shit. Like Portsmouth remember, where are all the previous owners, managers, players, spivs etc. who conspired to create their sorry mess now? They're all in clover reaping the rewards at other clubs, businesses and sunning themselves in some tropical paradise! Its the poor diehard supporters and people like the tea lady on 10 bob a week thats left picking up the shattered pieces!!!

My point here is that if Mehmet Dalman actually went public with the statement that there would be no budget for January signings, isn't it absurd that a day or two later, when apparently asked by a reporter what would be on his wish list for January signings, Malky expressed his desire for 3 new additions with the only reservation that this would need to be discussed and ratified by the board. Now I didn't see nor hear this latter interview but I've read in the press that it was thought to be just a a routine type pitch which would have been expected given the proximity of the January transfer window. In which case:-

1.Was Malky (usually conservative, businesslike, surefooted and media savvy) having an off day and dropped his guard aware of Dalman's prior statement but unenlightened about the ramifications of his own in that context?
2.Was he merely blissfully unaware of Dalman's release?
3 Was he very much aware of Dalman's comments but hell bent on taking the initiative to save his reputation, goad the board and curry favour with the fanbase; and at all times very aware of the ramifications but not particularly concerned about the dangers this could pose for the club itself?

If 1. Malky has dropped a bollock and shown his naivety!
If 2. Both Malky and the management look unbelievably unprofessional in today's instantly accessible media hungry world!
If 3. Malky appears much more Machiovellian and devious than I thought possible!

I leave it to the forum to make its collective mind up what is going on here!

vincent tan is upset :laughing6: you couldn,t make this up :laughing6: here is a bloke with dubious buisness dealings who has changed your kit on a whim and replaced it with a low buget man utd one with a badge off a bag of cement moaning cos malky said he would like to strenghten in a few areas.note the word like not will.bit late for tan to get all touchy feely after ripping the heart out of his fanbase by his actions.

I've got a feeling that Malky knows exactly what he's doing and in doing so either pushes Tan into firing him or making it obvious to other clubs looking to change managers that he is available.

Lets be honest here, Malky's days at Cardiff are numbered. There's no way he's going to see out the season with us due to his relationship with the Tin Pot Dictator. He knows that from now until mid January is the busiest time in the managerial merry go round. Clubs no longer wait until March to get rid of under performing managers they are far more proactive these days. Therefore his best chance of landing a less stressful job is right now. He knows how pissed off Tan is about the perceived overspending. He knows there's not a cat in hells chance of Tan giving him any more wonga in January. So what does he do? He tells the media he would like to strengthen the team in each area of the pitch apart from the goalie

I'll be amazed if we see Malky at the CCS after January. It would take a major climb down from both parties for them to resolve their differences. The only issue is whether he's fired or whether he leaves to join another club.

He wants out, wants his payday and to appear whiter than white for any future employer. Well played malky, your wish will be granted soon. His football is awful to watch but 17 points is a decent total. He has no eye for a striker and entertainment is not high on his list. His teams work hard but its not enough in the premiership. Cheers for everything, but on to the next one.

Tan has too much pride to fire somebody he hired, even though the overspend is ENTIRELY LIMS FAULT

He has to pick off people below him, it's just Tan saving face

Although I do agree with Tan not giving anymore money, and I understand why
But do it all behind closed doors, he is making our club look like a joke.

From a man who is a billionaire I would have thought he would understand professionalism, clearly I gave him too much credit

I think it's time for Tan to go, he has gone too far

I think you need to take a closer look at your manager, when he was given his seasons budget he was like a kid in a sweet shop, never had so much money at his disposal, went on a spending spree buying players which is now apparent he didn't need, not even thinking he may have to make player adjustments in Jan. I think he was also of the impression that the money scource was a bottomless pit. While I don't really like your chairman Tan I can see his point that he doesn't want to be treated like an open cheque book,I think his initial budget was adequate to sustain Prem survival for the first season and in all honesty I think Mackay wasted a lot of it.
This post as a Swansea supporter isn't having a pop at you but just an outsider giving his view on the situation, we're all fans and the ones that suffer most when things go wrong, hope you stay up and good luck for the future.

I'll concede that Campbell is decent and the jury is still out on Cornelius. His strike rate with strikers is not good though.
