Vincent Tan Tells Malky Mackay " No Money in January "
Monday 16th December 2013.
The future of the Bluebirds boss has been plunged into more doubt after he was publicly slammed by owner Tan in a remarkable statement
Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has told Malky Mackay he will not be given 'a single penny' in the January transfer window in an explosive statement that will stun the Bluebirds boss and fans tonight.
The sensational statement, released by chief executive Simon Lim, accused Mackay of overspending by £15m during the summer - a move Lim officially revealed directly led to the removal of Mackay's close aide and former head of recruitment Iain Moody.
Mackay's future has now been plunged into grave doubt, with Lim and Tan publicly slamming the boss for 'unfairly raising supporters' expectations' after the Scot revealed he was targeting three new signings in the January transfer window.
The statement read: “Tan Sri Vincent Tan was extremely upset to read quotes from the Manager concerning the possibility of new recruits, before he had been informed whether funds would be made available. He believes that doing so unfairly raises supporter expectations, placing unnecessary pressure on the club.
“His view is that due to the funds already committed, including the originally authorised summer transfer budget of £35m that rose to £50m in total, including add-ons, the Manager has been fully supported. The overspending of £15m has upset Tan Sri greatly, resulting in the removal on Iain Moody as Head of Recruitment. As such, he has stated that not a single penny will be made available in January.
“Having been the highest spending promoted club and the seventh highest spender in the Premier League last summer, the owner believes that the Manager has been given the best possible chance of retaining our Premier League status.”
The comments mark a new low in the relationship between Tan and Mackay, which was blown apart by Moody's exit in October.
The deep tension around the club appeared to be easing in recent weeks, with chairman Mehmet Dalman understood to be attempting to build bridges between owner and manager.
Those efforts now appear to have been crushed by the latest developments, with Tan publicly showing his fury.
Mackay is likely to be equally angry with the statement issued tonight, having previously denied there was any overspend during the summer and hailing Moody's influence.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Mackay. with the Bluebirds boss previously adamant he will not resign despite the difficult circumstances of recent months.
Mackay made the comments that have sparked the latest bombshell at the club following the 1-0 win over West Brom on Saturday.
He said: “It would be great if we can bring in three quality additions to the squad. I would look to strengthen all three departments in terms of a defender, a midfielder and an attacking player,” said Mackay.
“I will talk to my chairman who will then discuss it with his board of directors and our owner and I will take my lead from them. It’s up to them then what financially they want to spend in January. I’ve got my lists of players whether they be targets or loans and for various positions.
“We’ve got to try and strengthen again. We are a first time club so to speak. Everyone barring two other clubs has got a massive head start on us in terms of quality. They might only need to bring in one or two over a season. We had to bring in a group of eight players which was going to give us the chance to survive."

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/foot ... an-6411553Unbelievable statement, this puts Malkys position in severe doubt seeing that he just said he wanted 3 players and given lists to chairmen. I can't see him being around much longer they obvious don't talk, this is the only communication VT and MM have - through the media

Hang on tight guys, this is going to be a rough ride.

Surely Malky can bring players in for the money he gets from shipping players out, like Conway and Gestede. Even if the transfer fees aren't huge it releases wages?
At least if Malky goes there are plenty of other decent managers knocking about at the moment!

Well if he thinks he's overspent by 15million then I'd probably say no.
Tan is doing whatever he can to make Malky walk without sacking him

What exactly has Malky done wrong here? He never said there was money available, he just said he has a list and he will talk to the chairman. Surely that's the correct way to go about it
Mon Dec 16, 2013 7:20 pm
The fact Malky has come out and said he wants 3 players in, followed by Tan releasing this to the press via the chairman is absolutely unreal, total choas behind the scenes quite clearly!
I think Malky will be gone by new year, I hope im wrong but with other jobs coming up why would he put up with being undermined.

It would appear 8 million was wasted on Cornelius,no wonder tan says no more.
I'm not surprised.

More story lines than dream team.

Can't see Malky staying now, wouldn't blame him if he walked to be honest...
Mon Dec 16, 2013 7:22 pm
Fair play to simon lim if the statement is true. This is the idiot who was overseeing all the transfers and signing everything off so if Malky or moody did overspend then it was with his permission. Another attempt by tan to get Malky to quit in my opinion

What an absolute prat Tan is, does he not realize without new signing we will struggle just to stay up

There's a vacancy at Watford.

Surely Tan/the board would have had to have been involved in allowing all the summer signings? So how can Malky be blamed for 15 mill overspend...
Mon Dec 16, 2013 7:26 pm
Jesus wept, only just seen this. Malky is all but gone one way or the other. I'd be very surprised of he's still in charge for Saturday.

Circus has come to town again

Can anyone explain why Malky is not sacked?
Is it really because Tan doesn't want to pay him off?
This is incredible. Must not be true?
Mon Dec 16, 2013 7:32 pm
if we don't strengthen in January then we will go down , Tan does not understand football just hope he sells up

So can anyone tell me that Tan is supporting or Manager Malky, when its needed. Tan is forcing Malky out and making him work under terrible conditions.

why would he sack him,we're doing ok.

Lets hope amid all of this turbulence, lack of recruitment and potential manager swapping we have enough left to stay in this league!
Can you see a top manager coming to this club?
Mon Dec 16, 2013 7:34 pm
Malky said we are under budget, Tan says we are over budget, I wonder who's lying? As Steve Davies says, Simon Lim is the idiot who signed all our transfers off, so if Malky and Moody did overspend, it was with Lim's permission. Tan is doing everything he can to get Malky to walk so he doesn't have to pay compensation for sacking him in my opinion!

He's not ,he's making it as difficult as he can for Malky to stay , Tan needs to sell up he does not get football if we don't strengthen in January then we will go down whether Malky is here or not

Cant see how malky could overspend without tans say so tbh. Surely if you are the man with the money, then you would know exactly where and when your money is being spent, or you would put the transfer budget you are willing to part with into erm idk, the transfer budget account, so there would be know way of someone going over budget without your say so. How can you overspend by 15million without the knowledge of the person who owns the money ffs its not as if its the lose change left over from a pint of milk. Its 15million pound Lol

Well "terrible conditions" is fairly subjective, there's a lot harder jobs around.
Forcing him to go to save any termination fee? It's hilarious, if I was Malky i would also dig in.
