The Gary Medel myth

Sun Dec 15, 2013 8:32 pm

Excellent player when he keeps it simple but I have to say I cringe every time I see him lauded as some kind of hardman player. People are getting hard mixed up with petulant, whinging crybaby. Don't get me wrong he is a nutter who can dish it out but when he gets it back he can't take it at all.

If I had a pound for the amount of times iv'e seen him sitting on the floor with his hands in the hair asking for a free kick or mouthing off at the referee i'd be a rich man. To call him a hardman is an insult to the likes of Vinnie Jones, Don Revie, Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira.

lol i think you're making something out of nothing. he's pretty tough but its just something for fans to have a laugh about. i don't think our fans are being deadly serious about the whole thing. Peter whittingham is tough mind mate lol

Well that says more you than it does him, he's a crybaby. I cringe on here when people bang on about him as if he's one of the worlds tough guys. Tough guys don't whinge and moan all the time.

Well he goes down rather easily then sits on the floor for a few seconds with his hands in the air then gets up and smacks the floor like a 5 year old.

He is an excellent player, just stating that before the uneducated on here get on my back for daring to have a go at golden boy.

I consider him as a tough hard working player. Always acknowledge for him for being so calm on the ball and his passing more than his built up reputation.

What a ridiculous post.
Your living in the past. If he charged around like any of the people you mentioned in today's football he wouldn't last 5 minutes.
Football has changed (unfortunately). You don't & can't get 'hard men' anymore.

Its fun to have a cult hero, i spotted it a mile off. People fore go bad performances if they are "a bit of a lad".

Dave Mackay was what I'd call a hard man, took no prisoners. Would like to see some of these defenders nowadays cope with someone like Bobby Smith from the 60's. Once saw him take the goalie,CH and ball into the net with him.

You believe everything you read on here?

People saw the vids of him losing it & kicking those plastic chairs over, saw his record of red cards & he's got the label of a nutter or hard man. He certainly looks like he's hard in the tackle & wouldn't back down & that's good enough for me.

I lived through the days of Harris, Hunter, Smith & all those players & loved it! Sadly those days are gone.
