" David Marshall & Craig Noone "

" Immense' Marshall hailed by boss Cardiff City "

Cardiff boss Malky Mackay described keeper David Marshall's form as "immense" after he produced another great save to deny West Brom.
Marshall flung himself to his left to keep out a goalbound header from Shane Long with four minutes remaining at Cardiff City Stadium, earning himself further plaudits during what has been a very impressive start to life in the Barclays Premier League. The 28-year-old has been outstanding for the Bluebirds, and prior to the weekend's action he had made the most top-flight saves of any keeper, with 11 of his 61 stops coming during an astonishing personal display in the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in September. And Mackay admitted the standard of Marshall's displays meant he had not been too concerned when Long's header made its way towards the Cardiff goal. "I didn't fear the worst because I knew my keeper would save it," said the Scot.

"Shane Long is someone who has scored regularly and he got hold of it well. But David Marshall has been immsense for me, that was a top, top save. "He was the best goalkeeper in the Championship last year and had certain challenges last season in terms of his ability getting back in the Scotland squad and being the number one goalkeeper in the Championship. Now we are seeing he is a proven Premier League goalkeeper. "He has done a lot of work with our goalkeeping coach Jim Holman and we have a real belief in him and he brings a calmness to our back four which is noticed as well because the back four were tremendous again."

' Craig Noone '

Mackay also had words of encouragement for winger Craig Noone, who produced a lively display against the Baggies and provided the cross for Peter Whittingham's winner. Noone has had to wait for his chance to impress this season, but Mackay said: "He is someone I love having at the club, and he has a real love for football. "He has had to bide his time, he has got great potential to be a Premier League player. "He knows he has got a lot to add to his game but in that final third he can be unplayable at times and he caused West Brom all sorts of problems."

If Noone starts next Saturday i will be absolutely amazed - I think we'll mostly see him at home games this season.

Cowie back next Saturday or perhaps Gunnar.

Safety first again - let's hope it's enough to get the point which will be our aim from the kick-off.

Imagine Noone on one wing and someone like Montero or Zaha on the other. Vital we get another good winger in January. With pace and counter-attacking potential we'd carry much more of a threat both home and away. :ayatollah:

Very good to hear that from the MM on Noone.

Why? It's well-known that Noone isn't exactly a defensive winger, and being gung-ho at Liverpool given the form they're in is not the the brightest idea.

was personally very impressed with Noones work rate. thought he tracked back well, and going forward combined well with KTC.

Was very promising! :ayatollah:

on the evidence of Saturday's match I would say that Noone did more than his fair share of defensive work - popped up in our penalty area to clear dangerous situations more than once.

I would say that Odemwinge loses the ball more often than Noone on the basis of that one game.

Also noticed how we got a couple of midfielders forward into West Brom's area when Noone had the ball in their final third - Mutch and Whitts; that is good to see too.

Saturday was so much better than Palace, not just the result but the performance too.

Again, I agree. I would love to see Noone given a run although if Malkey deems it not so then so be it. He's the manager & I'll support his decision.
One terrible display & result against Palace & half the people on here want to hang him.
Whilst Saturdays game was hardly Barcelona-esque it was much better & a very decent match.

Good post, I've been saying for a while now, that Nooney needs to know when to pass and when to try and beat players, as in the past, he's tried to beat players in dangerous positions, lost possesion and put us on the back foot big time!

His all round performance on Saturday however was superb IMO and I hope he goes on to get a good run in the team!

On the other hand, I can see why Malky may choose to play without wingers at Anfield and keep things tighter, although Nooney showed enough in his performance against West Brom, that he could be trusted to play a more narrower role as well!

Marshalls save was as good as you'll see anywhere else. He is having a purple patch this season. Years ago for Celtic he went to the Camp Nou and saved practically everything. How Celtic didnt see there they had a great keeper i will never know, we are the ones now with him as our number 1 and thank f*ck for that!! think of how much he is prob worth, he is practically keeping us in every game.

As for Noony, its so much better having a player in the team who only goes one way, forward. All of our players get into good spots only to start running back towards our own half. Noone was pinging balls in one minute, taken em on the next, he gave West Brom a torrid time.

Big point about Noone is his attitude. He has bided his time and worked harder and he's appreciated the opportunity and is making the most of it. The other fringe players should take note.

There's no dount that the team is better balanced with Noone in it. The width he adds has been sadly lacking for most of the season, though tight and compact is what has got us good results against the Manchester clubs and a few others, we need to have more to our game to survive, and hopefully in the 2nd half of the season we will see more teamsheets with this sort of balance.
