Nicky Maynard

Sat Dec 14, 2013 7:08 pm

Anyone else wandering why Malky brought Maynard on for Campbell? I cannot understand it, we were getting crosses in the box quite often, thanks to Noone, and Maynard didnt add anything that Campbell didnt... Surely Cornelius is a better option?

Noon was the best player on the pitch for me

I agree, in my opinion him and Cornelius together will be a huge threat

I think Mackay is being careful, but being truthful he really should be getting 20 minutes on the pitch now.

Thought it was a strange one. We were crying out for Cornelius to come on as we were on the back foot and could do with him to hold up the ball and for defending set pieces. Ahwell, we still deserved to win and glad Malky changed it up today

It was a piss take, bringing on Maynard and Gunnarsson.. embarrassing.

Why...?

Medel, as usual, ran and ran for the whole game, he must have been knackered

I would've liked to have seen Odemwingie come off for Corno, but as above, Campbell worked hard and must have been shattered, so its was the closest like for like.

It seemed Malky wanted to keep the pace and have someone running at their back 4,

Also they had a big Defence and Corno might not have proven a potent enough threat from the air

All speculation of course, but that's what I read into the situation.

Totally agree that going forward Noone and Corno could potentially form a great partnership

Wanted to keep the pace so bring on Maynard who looks a tad overweight and make no impact?

Once again we paid 7.5 million for him. Also Cowie or Kim on for Medel would have been a good shout. Both should of been brought on.

I know what you're saying, but Gunnar was a like for like with Medel, Cowie has a lot of stamina and would have sprinted for every second left on the clock, but he hasn't got the physicaly presence that AG has.

I didn't think NM looked overweight personally, and he has just come back from another minor injury hasn't he?

He needs game time to be able to make any kind of impact, maybe when Bellers is back he can get minutes for the DVP?

He is someone I can see leaving in the summer though.

Maynard looks uninterested and doesn't even help pressure defenders in the last 10 minutes.

Gunnarsson weren't the worst change but one I felt we needed Cowie to do some pressing.

Yeah, Cowie would've also added something, I don't disagree at all,

It kinda feels almost like Malky feels he HAS to play Maynard this season, it's a shame he hasn't been able to contribute much for us, because he is (was?) a talented player with a lot of potential.

He'll lose his place altogether when Malky buys in the summer though, so lets just watch this space!

Loan him out or get rid of him, but only if he manages to add a striker in January.

Agreed.

Striker and a wide man, and i'll be happy!

If we find another "Caulker" type situation then an experienced PL defender to replace Turner to sure up the back. Can't see that being realistic though

That's true. Some on here will complain no matter what Malky does.
Good 3 points by the way.

hes young, new to english football and we have no idea what goes on behind the scenes each day.

malky will bring him on in games when hes ready for it.

We would never think we know better than a gas fitter, plumber, lawyer etc but for some reason we all know better than malky

Good post. Support the manager he's doing well IMO.

Re: Nicky Maynard

I thought he was coming on so he could chase and close there midfield and back for down quickly with his pace, But when he was on he was quite lazy. With the amount of crosses coming into the box I thought it would be ideal for a man who could head the ball to come on. *Cough Cough*.

Re: Nicky Maynard

Maynard was clearly brought on to play a similar role to Campbell, as their defenders were ridiculously slow IMO!

Hard to judge a player after 8 minutes of football though!
