Bands on the Canton stage

Sat Dec 14, 2013 6:24 pm

Seen a few this season & it's always a bunch of washed up never-beens singing old songs of other people (badly), the type of shite that clogs up the pubs in South Wales on a saturday night, there's a wealth of young original talent around & they should be given a chance not a bunch of overweight coffin dodgers re-living their long lost youth.Come on City it's 2013 & give the youngsters a chance, i love music & would support the bands but this shite is unbearable, i won't be bothering coming early to watch anymore of that shite.

Rant over.

Who cares. The majority of up and coming bands around by me are arrogant bellends who think theyre gods gift.

My mates cover band if which 2 are ST holders are one if the best cover bands in South Wales and they cannot get a gig at the CCS for love nor money.

The recently supported The Who tribute band at the Globe and upstaged the main act.

Shit name, Future Sailors, but if ever you get the chance to see them they are quality.

Cheers, i'll have a look out for them, give the youngsters a chance i say, it's a pity really because there is some very good young talent on the scene at the moment & they are denied playing because of all the dinosaur bands.

All the bands play the same set: Kings of Leon, Killers and Stereophics

This is exactly what i'm saying, it's the same old shite all the time, if it's not the tired old classics that have been done to death it's these 3 bands, i'd rather listen to youngsters playing their own material any day but for some reason CCS only want the boring old codgers

I've played classical guitar for years but do not pretend i'm a performer but admire talent as i know how difficult it is, the bunch of old never-beens on display down there are shocking & it should be young talent that is encouraged, i'd rather watch a youngster playing one original song rather than these fat old men playing 10 old covers badly.

I've heard good things about them from a mate who was going to that Quadraphenia gig at the Globe. Much prefer to see original decent bands as opposed to all this covers bollox. I shall YouTube them forthwith.

It ain't nothing to do with sounds i like it's about giving kids their say, were'nt The Who talkin bout their generation? I love classic rock but to watch a bunch of fat old men stil banging out old tunes is embarrasing just as when i was younger if it was a bunch of Teds playing rockn roll, they've had their chance (& failed) but 50 year old bald men in leather trousers looks crap but maybe it's South Wales in general that's stuck in a time warp :old:

We are all entitled to have a point of view & i came on here in support of giving a chance to the younger generation, this could be used as a showcase & support for young talent, these old bands do not need the publicity but what a great chance for someone starting out, as someone earlier stated of the two young season ticket holders who have no chance of getting a gig down there. You've come on here & not said one constructive thing just snide remarks as you do in most of your posts.

I will say just one more thing. The young kids are admirable for having the gonads to have a go. But you assume that everyone can write music or lyrics .So the obvious learning curve is to play covers.
I will point out to you that it was YOU who were knocking fat old men in leather trousers. It was YOU that resorted to calling me a prick. I would love you to say that to my face . You wouldn't even get to the end of the sentence I can assure you.

I don't get it, the original post is about boring bands playing cover versions, and the group you are bragging up play covers ?
