Baggies boo boys 11 months on from QPR farce
Friday 13th Dec 2013.
Peter Odemwingie will come face to face with the club who shunned him for trying to engineer a move to QPR in the last January transfer window
As the January transfer window gets set to open, bad memories will come flooding back to Cardiff City star Peter Odemwingie.
The striker, who faces his former club West Brom for the first time since being frozen out at the Hawthorns after driving south to QPR in the hunt for a deadline day deal a year ago, is happy that his immediate future is settled this time around.
Looking back: Odemwingie arrives at Loftus Road looking to do a deal
Today manager Malky Mackay has spoken out about the heartache his £2.2m man suffered as he became football's pantomime villain.
The Scot said “There was a lot of press around Peter at the time and he took a lot of pressure over it.
“But I can only speak about the lad I know and talked to people who had managed and coached him before we completed the signing. They were all glowing about Peter.
“If they hadn't talked about him in those terms it might have been a cause for concern, but he's an intelligent man who speaks four or five different languages, has been smiling since he came here , is really talented and desperately wants to do well here.
“He is a joy to work with and a really good signing for us. If he hadn't been the right sort of character we would not have signed him.”
Mackay, having shaken off the speculation about his own future is now setting his sights on a January raid into the transfer market.
As he prepares his team for tomorrow's crunch clash with the Baggies, he said: “We have various options in terms of what we would like to try and do.
“There will be a lot of competition for players and I will take my direction from the chairman (Mehmet Dalman) and board of directors over the next week or so.
“January is an interesting time, not quite as stacked with opportunities as the summer window.
“It's important to be careful with the business you do and as the right questions. Why are they available? What effect will they have on the team?
“If we bring in players they have to improve us overall. If they can do that they are certainly worth targeting.”
On the injury front, Craig Bellamy will have a late fitness test before Cardiff City's Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion but Andrew Taylor is set to return.
Bellamy missed the matches at Stoke and Crystal Palace after suffering a hamstring strain, while he sustained a further knee problem during training.
Manager Malky Mackay said: “It's not serious but Craig has had a number of knee operations over his career and our medical team are making sure he is okay.”

Play him. If ever there is a game to get him fired up this would be it.

I agree with Annis... Wingie will probably bag 2 goals against them or atleast 1 and trouble the keeper a few more times.
Campbell was sensational against Man Utd so I'm hoping he will be up for the game against Sunderland in a couple of weeks too
