Cardiff City keeping tabs on Celtic's Joe Ledley during Scottish scouting mission
Monday 9th Dec 2013.
Joe Ledley has been linked with a return to Cardiff City
Bluebirds also monitoring teenage Dundee United pair John Souttar and Ryan Gauld, but could face competition from Italian giants Roma and Juventus
Cardiff City are keeping a check on three possible targets in Scotland - including former Bluebird Joe Ledley.
Bluebirds' scout Tommy Johnson, a former team-mate of manager Malky Mackay at Celtic, watched Ledley during Celtic's 5-0 Scottish Premier League win at Motherwell last Friday.
He is also keeping tabs on Dundee United teenagers John Souttar and Ryan Gauld, who he watched in action as their team beat Hearts 4-1.
Roma, Juventus and Manchester United are among other clubs who have checked out the two Scots, while Mackay certainly has the right contacts at Tannadice.
Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara and his assistants, Simon Donnelly and Darren Jackson, are all former club-mates of Mackay at Celtic.
Souttar and Gauld are both 17-year-olds from Aberdeen who are playing first team football for Dundee United.
Midfield playmaker Gauld is attracting huge interest from some of the top Premier League clubs, while central defender Souttar is also highly rated.
Cardiff scout Johnson has also been watching Ledley, the former Bluebirds player who is out of contract at Celtic next summer.
Wales international Ledley, 26, left Cardiff three years ago when he was out of contract and could now be heading out of Celtic on the same basis.

Gauld is a cracking wee player. .....

Ledders would be a superb signing. I wonder how some of the fans would take it, though. It was a slightly acrimonious split when he signed for Celtic. Any chance we could get Adam Mathews back as well, please Santa?

Sorry but Ledley ain't up to premiership standards, more like getting ready for a good go at getting out of the championship first time.

Gauld is tipped for the top. Rumours Real Madrid are keeping tabs on him too, if youve seen him play you'll know why.
Ive been highly impressed everytime ive seen him. The type of player we desperately need although im not sure if Gauld is ready for first team football in the prem yet. That defender Souttar is good too, while we are there we might as well sign Mackay-Stevens as well.

We are in big trouble if this is the standard of transfers we are looking at .

Joe is ok-ish !!! However, You have just pointed out that he may be on the move as his 3yr deal is coming to end just like with us at the time. Sounds like the lad is only thinking of him self by becoming a millionaire by getting HUGE sign on fees rather than clubs paying a transfer

i never liked ledley first time round.. over rated in my opinion

I don't rate ledley

If we were still in the C'ship I could see why we might have Ledley back, he is no better than what we got already cant see this happening

Worse than that (IMHO) he and his agent let the fans of this club down in the manner with which he signed for Celtic
The part of the club (maybe Jones and Ridsdale) in that is open to some debate, but as a fan I felt as let down by Joe as I have by any player in my many years of suporting Cardiff City FC
A gulf of class between him (Joe) and Ramsey, which is why Aaron will always be welcome back here!
For both playing and integrity reasons, I'm afraid it's a no-go for Joe from me

Got to respect his agent though, constantly linked to a premier league club.
Just what we need another central midfield player who can barely pass or trap the ball

If MM wants Scottish .... Jordan Rhodes

Ledley has proven in the CL he's up to PL standard. He'd easily slot into a mid table prem side.

With respect, he hasn't. the two (SPL and PL) simply don't compare in quality and Joe has taken a fair amount of criticism from Celtic fans at times

Not in my opinion but even if he is would you be happy with such an ordinary player when there is so much better out there?
I've watched him for many years & can't really see what he does except run around like a headless chicken. He's not creative by any stretch of the imagination, doesn't tackle, doesn't score much ..........
Tue Dec 10, 2013 9:33 am
Not Ledley .................
I think we should be looking at better than him

The two youngsters seem interesting, especially if big clubs are looking at them. But we will be going backwards if we sign Ledley. We want players who will improve our squad and Ledley wouldn't improve our squad at all.
I wish we would go for Markus Henriksen from AZ. He would be within our reach, we have been previously linked with him and he is one of the best young box to box midfielders in the world with a huge engine and immense quality. He would be perfect to slot in alongside Mutch and Medel.
