"Cardiff need to be more clinical in front of goal " - Mackay

Manager Malky Mackay says Cardiff City have to be more clinical in front of goal after the 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Bluebirds only had one real chance, with striker Fraizer Campbell's header saved at Selhurst Park.

Cardiff are now one of eight sides in the Premier League averaging less than a goal a game.

"Every manager in the Premier League strives to have more goals," said Mackay.
"We created chances, but we have to be more clinical and it is something that we realise."
"We have to make sure we are better than that next week, when we face WBA "

Mackay admits his side need to improve in front of goal, but he claims he would be more concerned if Cardiff were not creating chances.
"Any defeat is disappointing, but I would be more disappointed if we hadn't created anything," said Mackay.
"Goals change games and it's fine line and if we'd scored that one [Frazier Campbell's chance], it is completely different.
"We didn't and we have to be better than that.
"They have a new manager and they have worked hard and a new manager brings impetus.
"We always knew it was going to be a tough game here; the crowd are on top of the pitch.
"They worked hard and it was never going to be and easy game.
"We have to make sure we are better than that next week."

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay insists relegation worry not an issue despite Crystal Palace setback

The Bluebirds boss is refusing to press the panic button after watching his team slump to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Selhurst Park

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay insists he is not worried about the threat of relegation despite watching his side outplayed by a resurgent Crystal Palace.

Mackay hopes to have talisman Craig Bellamy and defender Andrew Taylor fit and available to face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, 14 December.
"Craig was injured in the week and joined us today (Saturday)," said Mackay.
"Andrew Taylor is injured, but both will be back in the fray for next week.
"We have a smallish squad and we need everyone and all hands to the pump."

We need to get rid of players like cowie/turner etc not prem quality. Will we have money to spend in jan? And I really do think we over spent on the players we got for 30mill.

Idiot can bemoan his squad size but simply he has sent players out on loan I.e mason and Conway who are better than some of what he has kept and used I.e odemwingie ad Conway.

Odemwingie is a proven goal scorer at premier level, has played part of his time at WBA on the flank. Very easy to see the rationale behind signing him and sending Conway out on loan. As for mason, still largely unproven even at championship level

and malky wonders why we are having 4 efforts on target in over 120 minutes, very very poor

you need players with pace in this league we have one...
Noone on the flank would be useful too

Nor me...unless you include Theophile-Catherine's two mis-directed passes in to the box (one attempted centre and the other a header) late on in the game!

Playing with a single striker and packing the midfield to try and gain a point per game will get you an average points total of 38 points over a season :old:

We were and are shite..id like to see some passing between the players..instead we get hopeful long aimless balls from turner to campbell who is no target man..no different to what dave jones did with mcormack.theres no width no attempt to get to the byline to cross for strikers..all we look for is a free kick or corners so we can lump the ball in.. utter shite. And yes im pissed off..that shit today got me down..we are creating chances my arse..nows your chance tan.get rid

I agree with Carl pre game chat. But that was shit. Manager will not change 5/4/1. Personally think we are fucked.

He said we created chances just didnt put them away. We created 1 chance.

Fraizer header was in first few mins......whats the excuse for the rest of the game???

Its pissing me off now, if this had happened, if this hadnt of happened......well guess what Malky, it did happen and you had 85 minutes to sort it and created f**k all!!

Its all very well saying we have to be more clinical up front, but you have to dominate Midfield or at very least control biggest % of it. Once you have done that ,we can force quality balls up to our front men, or should I say MAN!
Also we need pace on the wings to try to get in behind the other teams defense, and also put quality balls across the face of the other teams goals.
It goes to show how bad we really are ,cos most of our goals have come from set pieces and not for open play.
Only 4 wins in last 20 games is far from good, and we wont stay up with this kind of performance. This is a team full of Maklys men, he picked them he should fix them. I still believe in Malky BUT, I think he is playing to safe and its not working. :malky:
