Joke of a statement.

ireland have a manufacturing base, a second tier economy and an efficient corporate tax regime. HSBC, BT and BP are all based in Ireland as a result. Irelands GVA is way ahead of Wales, we have no real manufacturing base, no second tier industry or economy of note and under Plaid's socialist policies I'd hazard a guess our tax regime would be on a par with Sweden.

Debt is not a bad thing if you can service it ie pay it back. The US national debt it larger than the rest of the world combined. Would you suggest the irish economy is in better shape that the worlds largest economy just because it has less national debt. With reference to our growing annual deficit well thats what a labour government always brings with it. History has told us that under every labour regime you end up with crippling interest payments on national debt, high inflation and high taxation. still people think labour do a good job. madness. Almost every economic theory points to average wealth being increased when individuals choose how to spend their funds rather than paying taxes, yet some people still prefer left wing social policies as the way forward. Plaid are some of those people.

Wales currently receives more per capita under Barnett than England. Wales GVA is £15,000 per capita yet spends almost £8,000 on public services. That means for every pound you or your business earn, more than 50p will have to be paid in taxes. Currently the UK pays about 32p so an independent Wales would need to raise taxes by more than 60% to maintain the same level of public services.

All those of independence, are you happy to see 60% more taken out of your pay packet to maintain the same level of public services.

you want to leave the largest free trade block in the world? you are happy to see price rises on all our products?

what car do you drive? Certainly ain't British is it? How about that stereo? Again, not British is it. Or the clothes you wear, the beer you drink or your favourite takeaway food.

Those who are so proud of being British should have the courage in their convictions and only buy British. they won't tho as it affects them in the pocket. People are happy to be Britain for the British until they realise just how much our standard of living will drop if we shut up the borders period.

typical over reaction

this is a thread about the bnp , you are saying you are out dropping election leaflets for the bnp and are defending the bnp

not exactly hard for me to come to the conclsion you are voting for them , so hardly sticking my nose in who you vote for is it ?

I am welsh and british too

the bnp are a racist party

I am happy as larry that they lost all their seats on barking council and that griffin was defeated by the local electorate

if you dont like that attitude, then I am afraid its tough luck

I voted Plaid, bit disappointed that we only had 150,000 votes and 3 out of 40 constituencies to be honest!

I'm also very upset that Monster Raving Looney party doesn't even get an MP this year! :eh:

plaid discriminate against people based on their ethnicity, so do BNP. fundamentally, they have the same principle. Britain for the British, Wales for the Welsh. Plaid are not so direct in the vehemence of the English, but their is still an undercurrent.

Its not discrimination at all? They want Wales to be a country and not a principality. Not as if we're telling the Blacks, Asians etc. to move out of our country, we just want to be separated from Britain and be independent!

the fact that Plaid only got 10% of the welsh vote would indicate that the majority of the welsh population prefer to be within the union.

Wales is a country in its own right, politically it is part of the UK state.

Are you suggesting this independence is without the fiscal assistance from Brussels? Basically Plaid want to replace the Westminster Benefactor with the Brussels benefactor. What Plaid have not grasped is that succession from the UK does not give automatic rights on entry to the EU. The Welsh economy at present has too high spending on public services to enable it to meet the intrinsic requirement of self sustainability. So therefore we'd leave the UK and ergo the EU. What exactly do we have in the way of primary or secondary industry to sustain anything other than a third world level of living? Without being too harsh on the indigenous Welsh, we owe an awful lot to being part of the UK. Our very standard of living is amongst the highest in the world, not bad for a nation that ranks less than Peru in terms on GVA

The 2 main parties both talked tough on immigration and that for now seems to have curtailed the BNP vote. What must not happen is for the ruling parties to renege on their promises and allow mass immigration to happen for a second time.

If it does go that way then I predict the BNP will be back bigger and badder than it was before.

I agree tony

the bnp have filled the space

not the main parties have to make sure they walk the walk

having said that , once people actually get to know what the bnp are really like , as they did in barking , they get voted down

best next time for the main parties to deal with it upfront , and not give the bnp the opportunity to spread their propaganda

Its a very, very tired argument about Plaid.
I support them, so does a minority of Wales. There's no point trying to persuade me that its a joke party because I believe, firmly, that it is the best for our country.

who has said Plaid are a joke party? What is true is they are the most left of all mainstream political parties ie socialists and as a result score very low in the polls. They have weak economic policy and their whole raison d'etre is based upon some quixotic ideology. Plaid insist that a patriotic Welshmen can only vote for Plaid but that is not the case. If Wales were a separate nation with its own parliament, Plaid would fair poorly in that too.
