West Ham face Cardiff transfer battle over Alex Fernandez of Espanyol.
The Spaniards want £500,000 loan fee for stylish central midfielder who was the player of the tournament at 2011's Under-19 Euros.
West Ham and Cardiff have made enquiries about taking Espanyol's Alex Fernandez on loan in January.
Former Real Madrid starlet Fernandez, 21, would be available for the Hammers or Malky Mackay's Bluebirds to borrow, but his Barcelona-based club want a £500,000 fee to farm him out.
The stylish central midfielder has played for Spain at every youth level from Under-17s up, and was player of the tournament at the U19s European Championship in 2011.
Fernandez's older brother Nacho has recently broken into the Real Madrid first team, but having failed to do so himself, he left the Bernabeu club by mutual consent in August.
