It was the front page story of the South Wales Evening Post. Apparently the council are cutting back and looking at all options.

Considering what money Swansea get from the Premier league you'd think they would contribute a bit more, the tight fcukers. Can't see it happening though.

It's the same in llanelli where i live. Council are closing playing fields all over the place to save money, yet the Scarlets rugby get let off even though they owe millions due to their 'contribution to the local economy'. They only get 5000 crowds. No one here gives a f**k. Pisses me off. Yet the same council were more than happy to let Llanelli AFC go out of existense. Fcuking egg chasers.

If there was any truth behind this, then it will be the Swans who buy it. Smart move by the council, sell it on to the football club and then they wont cop the blame off the Ospreys fans when they move on back to the Gnoll or St.Helens?

Everyone is a winner, Council dodge the flak and swell the coffers a bit, Swans can finally look at expansion on their own terms, Ospreys get to play their matches at grounds that reflect attendances.

Good post! The councils in South Wales give the egg all they want, and more. What happened to the Reds, (Llanelli AFC), is an absolute travesty. Always enjoyed my occasional visits to Stebo, especially when Leggy was manager :ayatollah:

All sounds very fair. Best thing Tan has done with us is get rid of the egg-chasers. I went to see Wales v Austria at the Liberty back in February, and was surprised to see all the egg stuff in the stadium. Had forgotten that they were still there. They can't be doing your paying surface any good!

I agree with the post about Welsh Councils.

When I was a councillor in Merthyr the Council own both the Rugby and football grounds. Now both grounds are on valuable land so I ask them to tell the Rugby club to share Penydarren Park because the facilities are much better and it would free up the land the rugby club was on to sell for housing. At the time that could have brought around £2million into the Council coffers but the response I got from the Council leaders was that they didn't want to upset the rugby club followers so close to an election!!!!

Not quite true though is it?

You were voted Grounds staff of the year because of how well they cope with the Rugby.

Jocko,
neat deal.
I can imagine how Jenkins and Co. will have been working on this. There's no way they can extend while the stadium is in Council ownership.Typical of those crooks but you have to admire their gyppo cunning.
Cheap deal - taxpayers ripped off again.
I can imagine how it will be spun as a great deal for the local authority ....but the truth will be obvious.
Not even worth a letter to The Audit Commision as the figures will be spun and everyone squared before it happens.

It's completely true. The pitch was voted best in the league by the 19 other teams and the referees resulting in Richard Duffy getting Groundsman of the Year award.

I'm afraid too say that it is true. Yes the rugby is taken into account but it's not the only contributing factor. And indeed it does stand as the only award there is of it's type. Arsenal won it the year before. You only need to google 'best playing surface in the premier league'. ;)

Makes sense all round, SCFC have money, the council need some and as a Premiership club they should look to control their own destiny and therefore the ground.

Just a part of me though that thinks that the attitude form your board will be 'why should we buy it when they are using it for next to feck all'.

Finally have an expansion? You been knocking on the councils door to expand but been denied many times and won't take the lower option. Surely if you was hoping to help extra fans you would take the lower option.

I only heard this back when you went up.. it was talk of it going on for the first season in the Prem or if you stay up and for the next season that you wanted 4,000-7,000 around there but you got turned down. The lower option was around 1,000-2,000.

I thought you would have took it even though it was low but just to get the extra supporters in.

This is fascinating stuff! So we've had planning permission turned down, but offered an alternative? And not one person in the whole of Swansea is aware of this, but apparently you are! :laughing6:

If you can read it means you wanted a bit too much because of whatever reason I don't know.

I wouldn't really make something like this up as it wouldn't achieve anything, it is something I heard a while back.
