my view Stoke last night

Thu Dec 05, 2013 3:30 pm

When we play the top Clubs Malky's tactics are spot on but I just cant get my head around those tactics against the likes of Norwich and Stoke. Last night Stoke was extremely poor but the negative of our play we could not take the advantage. The flair players that could cause the problems were sat on the bench or not there at all. Five central midfielders was so fooking frustrating when Noone and Bellers was over looked. And I still cant get my head around why Campbell was taken off. Make no mistake Stoke should of been beaten as they were so bad IMO. They were so much better under Pullis.
Malky is a young manager and he is learning but it still concerns me this is now his stool. But hey I love the song and its brill lol

Nukes, I have never said Malky does not make mistakes, even Alex Ferguson did, Malky is a young and up and coming manager who is still learning, but will one day be a top Premiership Manager in my opinion. :ayatollah:

When malky made the sub, everyone was hoping he'd keep Campbell on and go for the win ,but being late on everyone knew it would be like for like, because he was happy with a point, let's be honest if he did put two up front and stoke scored, every cardiff fan in the ground would have been screaming at malky, even though as with villa, the three points were there for the taking,a point at the end of the day ain't such a bad result

Nukes, have to say I agree with the basic content of your post and whilst I would have taken a draw quite happily BEFORE the game, I did come away a tad disappointed that Malky didn't make the substitutions that might have won us the game against a surprisingly poor opposition...

Annis is (IMHO) correct when he says Malky will become a top Premiership manager, although I am not as confident as I was that will be with us

Was great to meet you guys (Nukes, Annis, Carl, Mallo et al) last night and was a great atmosphere/bunch on the bus :)

I can only apologise for the old fella who came with me (the one Annis tried to throttle with his own scarf! :laughing6: ) but at least he (Annis) got a Blue Riband chocolate bar out of it on top of his ear ache! LOL

Only joking, of course, but it was a good trip and we appreciated the warm welcome form all we spoke to :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

But Norwich and Stoke were completely different. At Norwich, Malky went for the win, having 4 attacking midfielders supporting Campbell with only Medel holding. Our 4 midfielders behind Campbell were Whittingham, Kim, Mutch and Odemwingie. We got absolutely battered in the first half and Malky had to make defensive substitutions at half time so we could grind out a point.

At Stoke, Malky selected a far more defensive line up and correctly selected the experienced Whitts to play on the left to help out young Declan John (who stepped in and did fantastic again for an 18 year old). I would say although Stoke had a go at us for the first 30 minutes, we rode the storm and the final 60 minutes, we were marginally the better team. We didn't really look like scoring, but neither did Stoke and it was a good battling point. It was a better performance than at Norwich and I think Malky learnt from the Norwich game with his Stoke team selection and tactics.

I am more than happy with us spoiling the game and making it a horrible spectacle away from home, that is how a team like us will pick up results away from home. We now already have a good chance of beating Norwich and Stoke at home and that will mean we could take 4 points off two teams in our mini league. With our run of home games coming up, we have currently put ourselves in an excellent position. We are doing well and Malky is definitely doing well. Those wanting Malky out are absolutely clueless!

He didn't make any positive changes at Villa til after they scored?
Hindsight I know, but had Mutch started instead of the totally lost Gunner in that advanced midfield role & the outcome might have been different.
We have the look of a side with a decent bench to change a game, but Malky seems a bit obsessed with this "like for like" change of our striker on or just after the hour mark?

Man Utd he broke the mould and look what happened!!

I agree, biggest concern is that Malky doesn't seem to be learning from his mistakes. He can be a good manager yet at other times seems naive beyond recognition.

This! Good to hear this from a mod. I don't think we need to be parking the bus for all the away games to get a point!
