Teams having success playing 4-4-2 this season, Liverpool man city and Newcastle all examples of teams doing well playing this tactic. I think this is what we need to do and this tactic would work well for us don't you think

Liverpool and Newcastle don't play 4-4-2. Liverpool usually play 3-5-2 with wing backs, they played 4-4-2 today and lost at Hull. Newcastle play 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 with Remy as a left forward, Gouffran as a right forward and Cisse as the target man.
Playing 4-4-2 would mean Whittingham would have to play down the left, as Medel and Mutch would surely have to be the 2 centre midfielders with their power and work rate. We would get severely overrun in midfield if Whittingham was in the centre in a 4-4-2 system. I also feel 4-4-2 is a very static system and we would struggle to keep the ball as well. We would have to go more direct playing 4-4-2 and you would have to think Cornelius would be the target man for Campbell or Odemwingie to play off.

Don't see what everyone's fascination with 442 is. It's a dead tactic in my opinion. I'm no manager but with FIFA and football manager I never stick to my 433 or 4231. And well only city seem to get success with 442 and not so much away from home atm remember.

Liverpool 4-4-2?

The only team that have played a consistent 4-4-2 is Fulham, look where they are currently.
