Malky has got us to where we are now and even if we do get relegated, he deserves at least another 18 months. If we get relegated, I would have faith in Malky getting us back to the Premiership and we will be a lot stronger the next time. West Brom took years of bouncing up and down and look at them now.
On the other hand, we could take the Wolves route with Mick McCarthy and go down to League 1! Malky has been our best manager in my life time and if we get rid of him, I don't think we would be able to get anyone much better. We need stability in our first Premiership season, the stability to continue building and improving. If we sack Malky, we will get relegated, if we keep Malky, we have a very good chance of staying in the Premiership.

Or we could take the Southampton route and kick on to the next level

I honestly think Malky can take us to the next level, but obviously it will take a bit longer than Southampton's rise as I don't think Malky will ever have 12m to spend on a Wanyama and 13m to sign an Osvaldo in the same season.

Eh? He had more to spend than Southampton did in their first season and didnt spend far off that in Caulker and Medel anyway.

I mean individual transfer fees. Malky wanted Wanyama but Tan wouldn't fork out the extra million or two. Southampton paid over 13 million for Gaston Ramirez last season and overall, spent nearly 36 and a half million. Similar to our spending this season so far, but Southampton have signed two 13 million pound players and a 12 million pound player. It doesn't seem Malky has the luxery to spend fees like that. Our record signing Medel was only 9 and a half million.

Southampton is a bad example, they have pretty much dealt with the last season and a half perfectly, have plenty of players coming through the youth system, and have spend what money they have on good players who can make a true difference to the side, having said that i still expect them to drop down the table a little to around 9th/10th which shows just how good and consistent the top part of the league is.
Back to Mackay, and there is the very real possibility that we will be in the relegation zone at christmas should we not pick up a win in either of these two away matches. That alone is grounds to sack a manager in this day in age. As someone else has pointed out, the three teams below us have all sacked their managers and more will go this season.
