Hassle in wheelchair section

Sun Dec 01, 2013 5:01 pm

Just spoke to my dad who takes my brother who is in a wheelchair and nephew (7yrs) down the city. They are in the elevated section between the grandstand and grange in front of the new media section.
Yesterday the city had decided to hire out this section to a group of arsenal corporate fans who decided as they were in a nice safe area with just disabled and young supporters able to get to them they works spend the match abusing, swearing and threatening said fans! When the stewards were called all they did was spend the match telling them to calm down yet stereo sit in the Ninian stand fans were being taken down and threatened with bans for standing!
I wish my dad had phoned during game as I would've made sure to confront a few of these hard knocks when they left
Shame the club is all about money and corporate and don't give a shit about fans, did think it would improve for my brother after years of getting soaked with no view at ninian park but to be honest tan and his cronies see the wheelchair fans as a problem as they take up too much space for his liking!

i was sitting just to the left in the family stand of them....when Arsenal scored the first one or to words were exchanged, however when the second goal went it around 15 of them all jumped up cheering, there was a lot of us going bananas, no way on should the be allowed in. you could even hear them singing Arsenal songs :x :x :x :x :x :x

Absolutely Disgusted by this....I hope you complain and get some sort of response out of the crowd. I know Cardiff hasn't always done its best for disabled supporters or had the best facilities - but I honestly assumed with our new stadium and the big noise about being a family club - something like this would not happen and our disabled fans would have a decent area to watch the game from...How wrong I am...

I'm really sad to hear this and this needs to be stopped.

On a similar basis, I accepted an invItation to the Premier Lounge on level 4 yesterday, I used to have access to regular seats up there when there was only a few hundred regulars and most if not all were football people.
Yesterday, didn't enjoy, too many people just there for the hospitality, looking for a drink at start during & through HT and before end of game.
To top it, was seated behind 4 or 5 Arsenal fans and next to two more and others in the vicinity. Spoilt it for me, had words with one who made no attempt to respect he was in a Cardiff section. His justification " gotta support your team, anyway I'm from Cardiff."
I won't go back up there, but will suggest there will be trouble up there if a group of fuelled Cardiff fans end up sat next to any cocky away fans!

I think I'm right in saying that the disabled section you speak about was reduced in size about 2 seasons ago and many of the fans were relocated to the disabled section at the other end of the field between the grandstand and the Canton stand. This section now has about 20 extra wheelchair fans and helpers (40 extra fans) but is still serviced by one small lift and 3 toilets. Both of these facilities were inadequate when they had to service the original 28 wheelchairs (and 28 helpers) so you can imagine how they are struggling to cope with 48 wheelchairs and 48 :ayatollah: :ayatollah: helpers. I think this was done to accommodate a corporate facility at the other end (the one you speak of)

Moon boots your spot on, many of the wheelchair supporters were moved just do they could put in this corporate shit. They weren't asked if they minded and just moved. This year up until 3 days before the start of season my dad and brother were still unsure if they would be in there normal seats. The way the club gave treated their disabled dans is nursing short of a disgrace and yesterday events just shows the contempt they have for them. However I will not let thus lie and if no joy tomorrow I will be contacting the bbc and also be looking to see if any breach of the disability act has been broken.
