Would Cardiff City be better off if Tan never got involved?

Fri Nov 29, 2013 3:42 pm

What do you think?

If you could turn the clock back and stop him getting on board would we be now better off?

Sorry another silly survey! It's well documented how bad things were before tan stepped in? So how on earth could we ever been better off without tan? other than have blue shirts! That's all

We would be in div 2.

We'd be another Plymouth/Pompey, we'd have a brand new ground(26,000) seater at the same in League 2 probably, Sam would have been fucked out of his money as we'd have gone to admin or whatever, council would hate us and we wouldn't have any say in anything, the Welsh media would hate us even more, we'd get no backing, would take ages to get support back(our hardcore support is about 8-10k max) Swansea would rinse us of all of the newcoming fans. We'd be fucked

Maybe not quite out of the league, wez, but I know from highly reliable information received at the time that if Ridsdale hadn't used the so-called 'season ticket' money on the day that he did, we would have 100% been taken into Administration and (at best) relegated to Division One, from where we would have found it difficult to recover without a major benefactor like, erm, Vincent Tan ;)

Love him or loathe him (Tan) he stabilised this club when no-one else was interested, turned it around and (with Malky at the helm) got it a place at the top table in football, i.e. the Premier League :ayatollah:

The loss of 'Blue' will always be the one negative issue, but in most other ways he has "come up trumps" :ayatollah:

Apart from the rebrand, we would only have got worse IMO.

We would have been liquidated as a football club without tans intervention it's as simple as that .
I was in the high court that day and we were being wound up by the hmrc and even when tans lawyers produced his letter and proof of funds for the 6 million he was investing the revenue lawyer was still arguing that we were trading insolvent.
There was no option of blue In division two and there was no corner to look around as we were minutes away from not existing.
That's the facts of the matter and that's why I was grateful to tan at that time for keeping the club alive. He has not exactly covered himself in glory since but then I always consider him to be another Sam hammam but with a lot more money.
Both men are dictators and believe it's their way or the highway.
All things go in cycles and hopefully a mid table finish and a debt to equity completion would make us attractive to another investor who would return us to blue.

In an empty stadium going nowhere sounds like a great plan that.

Good post, as many others know but refuse to accept, HMRC were not the only vultures waiting in the wings to pick the financial bone that is Cardiff City, at least three other companies were about to hand the club a winding up order through the courts and there is no doubt the club would not have survived, everybody who loves the club should be greatfull to VT for keeping us afloat, he has also provided malky with the funds to get us to the premier league (something we havn't done for over 50 years) funds also to make us competitive in the premiership, an extention is now being built on our stadium along with new state of the art training facilities, projects which will become huge assets to the club and hopefully make us much more attractive to any future possible new owner, unfortunately lately he has crossed over the line as far as i'm concerned (the moody sacking, the fall out with malky and obviously the change of shirt colour) and i would like to see a new owner who would involve the fans more, lets hope this happens in the not to distant future.
