' Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey always destined for greatness says Cardiff City's Peter Whititngham '
26th Nov 2013
Former Bluebird Aaron Ramsey has been one of the top performers in the Premier League this season and his ex team mate Peter Whittingham said he always expected to see that
Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey will return to his first club Cardiff City on Saturday as one of the brightest stars in the Premier League firmament.
Ramsey has scored 11 goals for Arsenal as the Gunners have stormed to the top of the table and also made good progress in a difficult Champions League group containing Borussia Dortmund, Marseille and Napoli.
It’s a remarkable story after the horrific leg break in February 2010 which threatened to end Ramsey’s career and many Arsenal fans were unconvinced about the 22-year-old from Caerphilly as he worked his way back to full fitness.
But former Bluebirds’ teammate Peter Whittingham reckons Ramsey was destined for stardom from his early days at Cardiff.
“When he was first coming through at such a young age he was so calm and assured on the ball I think everyone knew around the place that he was going to be pretty big,” said Whittingham.
“He’s doing pretty well at the moment, fair play to him, but hopefully he can struggle next Saturday. Arsenal is going to be another big game, but it’s just ones of those which you are just relishing.”
Ramsey made fewer than 30 appearances in two spells as a Bluebird, a second short loan stint coming in February 2011 as he battled back from the challenge of Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross.
“He had more self-belief when he came back to us,” said Whittingham.
“Obviously he’d been at Arsenal and Arsene Wenger (Arsenal manager) has taken him under his wing.
“It was just a case of self-belief, like ‘I’m on the ball and I’m the best player kind of thing’. That’s what he showed.
“I assume it was really hard for him because it was a horrific injury, but I’ve got loads of respect for him doing that.”

He will probably get the best reception of any returning City player.
Old Giggs was half/half as expected really. Just for the record I was a boo boy.

At one point it looked like Arsenal may have wasted the £5m.

No, they were just playing him out of position.

Would have been nice if DJ played him from the start in the cup final. Pompey were there for the taking IMO.
On another note, I'm hearing good things about Tommy O'Sullivan. Apparently just as good as Rambo was

He won't celebrate if he does.
The amount of respect he has for us is incredible. Always giving us the odd mention on Twitter shows he has interest in how we are doing.
Also the celebration v Swansea said enough.
