Ryan giggs

Did he deserve to be booed?,fair enough the Chant of your welsh when you want to be,might be justified, but boos?whats the thoughts?

Re: Ryan giggs

Mon Nov 25, 2013 3:05 pm

I clapped him as he entered, but after that he's just another opposition player.

You don't see many like him, to achieve what he has done and all at one club is magnificent

Re: Ryan giggs

Mon Nov 25, 2013 3:08 pm

There was a mixed reaction really... I personally bood him.
I don't like him in the slightest.

People clapped him because he is "Welsh", not for what he has achieved in football...

Re: Ryan giggs

Mon Nov 25, 2013 3:10 pm

I clapped him as we havent got many legends of the game from Wales but hes certainly one of them.

The game was stopped its not like people were encouraging him when he had the ball at his feet.

Re: Ryan giggs

If you booed him shame on you. Credit to welsh football.

Re: Ryan giggs

some things just transcend tribal loyalties - most round me and including me applauded Giggs as he entered the pitch. True legend of the game.

enjoyed the chanting as well mind

I booed when he came on but did the same with welbeck,he has absolutely nothing to do with Cardiff city football club, only bothered to mention us this week because he was prompted by the media

How can you say he's a credit to Welsh football? It took him 7 years to play his first friendly and he never played a Wales away friendly. It's absolutely pathetic! The number of good games for Wales you can count on one hand too. I choose to applaud passionate Welsh players who represent our country with pride and I will be giving Aaron Ramsey a big clap Saturday. But Giggs doesn't deserve anything from us and he certainly didn't deserve to be clapped after continually turning his back on our country.

I see your point about the friendlies, but that was man united stopping him,but if he had the bollocks,I suppose he could have defied them

Are you really saying Man Utd stopped Giggs from playing in a single Wales friendly for the first 7 years? I didn't see any other Man Utd players getting blocked from playing friendlies? I mean I completely understand players being blocked from playing if their club has a big game coming up and the club manager doesn't want his player to risk getting injured or burnt out, but 7 consecutive years? No matter how much Fergie would have wanted to look after Giggs, surely Giggs still had an opportunity to play at least one friendly during those 7 years?

Anyway, getting back to your original post, I respect Giggs as a footballing legend, but I don't respect him as a person. He was on the opposing team, so I booed him, just like I booed every other Man Utd player.

Two man united players withdrew from international duty a few weeks back, can't remember who but it was a thread on here about it,who really knows what happenened 7 years is a long time not to play a friendly, may be it was giggs not having the heart to play?

TBH I just thought it were just another player. I just thought that's Giggs..... So what.
May as well have been Andy King for Leicester.....

Well said. One free kick when he was a teenager at the Arms Park and a few good forays when he was captain is all I remember of him in a Wales shirt. And getting banned from the next match - World Cup group decider - for sarcastically clapping the referee.

You obviously weren't there when Giggs made his final appearance for Wales against the Czech Republic at the Millennium Stadium. When he got taken off he was given a standing ovation for his service to his country, surely if he wasn't that bothered about playing for us he would have been booed that day? Also he played on after Hughes left and some of the other players, including Gary Speed RIP, chucked their toys out the pram and 'retired', when Toshack took over. Basically mate you're talking total and utter bollocks, Giggs is a Welsh legend and deservedly so.

Totally agree, could understand why some of our fans wouldn't applaud him, but booing him was pathetic IMO, especially those who said they did it because he shagged his brother's wife!

I didn't realise we had so many people on here with such high morals! :)

It has been pointed out Giggs did play one away friendly against a Basque 11 so I stand corrected with that. But how you can say Giggs is deservedly a Welsh legend is totally embarrassing. Would anyone's employers think you're a legend if you only decided to turn up to work when you felt like? I think not!

you dont think we could have done with him since his retirement ?
this wasnt a guy trying too squeeze another year out of himself. we have blokes on low income that scrape and scratch to go all over europe to WATCH and SUPPORT Wales, and then this fella on mega bucks that just stopped being bothered to play. to represent your country should mean more

Of course but it comes a point where you have to decide if he can keep doing it and obviously he didnt. I certainly think retiring fro international Duty has helped him prolong his career.

Well said, agree with every word, he stayed on to help Toshack whilst the girls walked away because they didn't like Tosh, e.g savage what a pri%k,

He has made mistakes but who hasn't, total respect for him :ayatollah: :malky:

I respect everyone's decision if they boo'd or clapped or stayed quiet.

Clapped him when he came on but didn't do anything else.

His choice for turning down Wales for some game doesn't have any effect on me. He doesn't call himself a Welsh Legend it's the media who portray him as that, he hasn't done nothing wrong in my eyes.

Cant say I respect those who boo'd but a personal choice.

Otherwise I agree, the people I boo remind me of the English who love to build someone up just to knock them back down again.

If you want to clap a "true welsh legend" go and clap a player/manager such as Carl Robinson who had to pay for his own flights to play for his country because he was playing abroad! that is a true welsh hero not giggs

Because he was on the opposing side! I booed Ryan Giggs and every other Man Utd player, I helped make the CCS a cauldron of intimidation to Man Utd to try and help us! Giggs didn't deserve any special treatment imo so I treated him the same as Rooney, Fellaini etc.
