Campbell and Cornelius

Sun Nov 24, 2013 9:58 pm

I liked the look of Cornelius today when he came on. Looks good, strong, pacey. But after Fraizer's performance, he can't be dropped. I'd like to see those two together for maybe Stoke/Palace to see how they perform together.

All Campbell's needed was the good passes played into his feet, and we knew he'd score, and today he got that, and was superb.

Interesting, I thought Odemwingie had a good game today and against the Jacks, that's a big call.

He holds up the ball really well and brings players into play. Has a few skills too. :ayatollah:

Odenwingie and move Campbell out wide
I was impressed with Cornelius directness and pace in the short time he played

Playing the great Dane up front with Campbell and Peter O as the wide players with GARY Whits Mutch in middle is the answer, this then keeps 5 across the middle as MM prefers.

Midfield is undroppable for me. Cowies pressing is vital. He's very important for us. Does slot of unnoticed work off the ball as well.

Cornelius has to wait for a chance, although think he could be used away as an outlet under pressure. And Campbell used at home.

Campbell isn't a winger. He'd be totally wasted out there.

Agreed. Campbell was shit for Sunderland on the wing. He's a goalscorer.

We have to give Campbell and Cornelius a shot up front together but Arsenal isn't the game for it... Stoke or Palace try it out...

Yeah have to agree stoke game to try this although I'm sure they'll be working on it in training, I think malky will go back to compact against arsenal as they play through the middle so probably expect maybe Kim and Bellamy to start in place of pow and cowie but we'llsee

Other way for me.Campbell was class today and with the right service will be a predator with the Dane up front.Odenwingie wide.

Odemwingie was really good today IMO he gave 100 percent chased down everything and it would be mental to drop him from the starting 11

I can't wait for the day we play 2 up front. Watching 451 every week is starting to get tedious, although the system is working atm picking up points. Though we do seem to be snatching goals from set pieces atm. I thought against Newcastle he should have changed it chasing the game. We don't create enough chances playing 451. Just hope we are positive and go 442 against the teams we need to beat.

Re: Campbell and Cornelius - Yes from me.

Don't know why, but over the years the most lethal strike partnerships for us have been "big guy/ little guy"?

Toshack/Clarke, Alston/Evans - maybe Cornelius/Campbell ?

Bloooobirds !!! :old: :old:

Re: Campbell and Cornelius

Unfortunately, in an era where just about every team plays a variation of 4-5-1, if we played with two up top we would lose the midfield battle and wouldn't be able to get the service to them.

Not yesterdays game the system we play is so difficult to watch week in week out, we hardly get hold of the ball and when we do we can't keep hold of it or just lump it long to campbell, we've got no width and the striker just feeds of scraps. agree there's a time and place to play 451, just hope we change the system during the season. The majority of our goals have come from set pieces that tells you how much we are creating in open play.

So would you be happy to watch us play 451 all season 10-11 men behind the ball, defending for 90mins, low possession, strikers feeding of scraps. System is working for us at the moment due to the teams we are playing. I just don't know if I can watch us play 451 all season.

We must play Cornelius. Let's face it, we are most likely to score from set piece. Cornelius adds that threat! can't wait for the Arsenal game now :ayatollah:

I wouldn't, I would drop Cowie. why would you drop a winger, we need wingers for Cornelius and Campbell to work properly
