Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell excited by meeting with former club Manchester United
22nd Nov 2013
The Bluebirds frontman who fired two goals in the win against Manchester City this season now plans to turn over the red half of Manchester and his former employers
Fraizer Campbell spent 12 years with Manchester United and is now preparing to face his former club at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday.
Campbell "12 years I spent with Manchester United/it was difficult to leave "
The Yorkshireman played against Manchester City and started in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle, while he was also involved in the FA Charity Shield match against Portsmouth at Wembley Stadium five years ago.
Bluebirds manager Malky Mackay accepts Campbell's long spell at Old Trafford, having joined his boyhood idols as a young schoolboy, will ensure Sunday's match is special for the striker.
"It will mean a lot to Fraizer," said Mackay.
"He was given his grounding in football at Manchester United's Academy. He learned good habits and was given a solid base for his professional career.
"Like many others there came a time when Fraizer needed to go out and fly. I did that myself at Celtic as a young player. It doesn't mean you have failed, but he had to make his way elsewhere and he has certainly done that.
Malky "We are delighted to have Fraizer in our squad here."
Campbell, 26, signed for Hull, Sunderland and Spurs before he joined Cardiff City in a £650,000 transfer last January and he's fired nine goals in 17 starts.
"It was difficult to leave United," said Campbell.
"I'd been there since I was 10-years-old and I wanted to be playing first team football. I have no regrets, though, because you have to be realistic."
Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney were in front of me. Then they brought in Carlos Tevez.
“I had to be worth £25million to be playing in that team!
"I had a great time there. I didn't play many games but it was nice to have a role at Manchester United for so many years from a young boy to senior professional."
