LAWRO/MERSON/UTD FANS ~ WHAT ARE THEY SAYING??

Mark Lawrenson Predictions

Manchester United manager David Moyes' assistant Phil Neville was talking on Football Focus last week about Moyes winning the trust of the United players after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson.
I think that when you come in after a manager who has been at a club for as long as Ferguson was, then you have got to change people's thinking and the way they do things, because you can only do it your way as a manager.
The problem is you have to get results along the way because that is the only way to really get the players to buy into what you are saying.
That did not happen for Moyes at first, but it is happening now.
There was massive relief at Old Trafford when United beat Arsenal last time out, and it was a much better performance from his side too.
You sensed against the Gunners that the crowd realised that they needed to help their team. It was a big, big result for them and I think they will build on that by going to Cardiff and winning.
It will not be straightforward, though. Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay has got his players well drilled and well prepared for whoever they play.
Mackay and his staff obviously do loads of work on the opposition and their players follow his instructions to the letter which is great.

That gives them an outside chance against most teams, and they also have an outside chance of staying up.

Lawro's prediction: 0-2

Paul Merson Predictions
Cardiff are playing Manchester United at the right time. Everybody has just come back from the international break and there are questions over the fitness of Danny Welbeck, Michael Carrick, Jonny Evans and a few others. And remember, Manchester United will have one eye on a Champions League game they need to win against Bayer Leverkusen in midweek, so this is a good time to play them.
I don't think David Moyes can afford to rest any of his players. I reckon Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea will all win this weekend and if Manchester United drop points then they will slip further back in the title race and all the good work they did by beating Arsenal two weeks ago will go out the window. This will be a difficult game for them, but I think they will win it. The Cardiff City Stadium isn't the hardest place to go - I saw Tottenham go there the other week and they could have scored 100 - and Cardiff haven't looked good in some games, especially away from home. It all depends how long they can hold out.

PAUL PREDICTS: 0-2

Read that before. Makes me laugh that every single person (cardiff fans) replying on the thread claims to have been there, however. 'United had the numbers but couldn't fight toe to toe'...yeah, alright lads.

by Salfordlad70,
This should be a win.I expect this to be a win.Adnan will play hopefully and Fellaini and Nani are likely starters.I think many thought that 7 points from Arse,Cardiff and Spurs would be a good return.Win this and we can start thinking 9 points.Certainly Spurs away seems less daunting than it did a month ago.
December sees us play 5 league games away from home so hopefully we can see November out in style.I reckon 3-1 United.

by Shark22,
We'll have too much for Cardiff here IMO, plus the lads won't want to drop any points after building a fantastic platform with that Arsenal win. It feels great to be confident again

by Eric'sCollar,
Will take a point to be honest. Always tricky after a break.

by Paddy Wong Un 147 ,
I reckon it'll be a tough game, we won't play particularly well, but we'll nick the win. One of those we're you're just glad to get out of, and be thankful to have won it.

by Gerald G,
We will dominate possession vs Cardiff. They're an organised team but they are not a team that will better us in possession which is why I'd rather start our other CM's. I would play Jones at CB, well only if Vidic doesn't make it. I'd probably start Fellaini or Giggs here (yes Giggs). I think Giggs will be up for it.

By Big papi,
This is a must-win game. Don't really care if it's 1-0 or 9-0 (would prefer 1-0 though) so long as the performance is good and another three points are taken. No let-up now.

By George Owen,
I want to see Januzaj and Nani on this one... we need some dribbling, plus good long range efforts. Cardiff will be tough to beat, but we can do it... they defend with 7-8 players all the time, so bombing their area with crosses might be frustrating. Some nice short quick passing game and open them like a sardines can.
Medel has bossed Rooney every time they play each other so i wouldn't expect him to show up for this one.

by sixpence,
I don't buy all this atmosphere nonsense that the media are spouting about this one. Our players have massive experience playing in hostile atmospheres all around the world, they won't be bothered by this one. If we acquit ourselves properly in defending set pieces we should win comfortably.

Jerr Koh,
After the mammoth victory against the Gunners, can we continue this in Cardiff in two weeks, against a club with supporters disgruntled against their Malaysian owner, Vincent Tan? GGMU!

Mark Lawrenson has us on zero points at this stage. How he justifies a telephone number salary is f*cking incredible

We've already showed several top half sides that the premier league isn't all that. We have nothing to fear

Lawrenson has hated us with a passion since October 29th 1977 when our very own Robin Friday got red carded for kicking him in the mush then broke into the Brighton dressing room found Lawrenson kit bag and shit in it :laughing6: . Those were the days eh? :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6: :ayatollah:

That's the kindest Lawro has been to us all season. If we start scoring some goals and attacking with some intent, the pundits will have to start taking us seriously...

United fans don't want to be too confident. They should remember what happened when their neighbours came down here.
