A forum for all things Cardiff City

Not a big poster on here, just a reader but I thought I'd share my boys coaches words from a friendly my sons team played against the Cardiff Ellite U12 -14''s last night.
My son plays for Port Talbot academy which are a good team themselves. We got 5 players who have been released from Cardiff and Swanseas academy so are no push overs. We got to the S Wales finals last year and lost to a very close game but we have had more quality players come into the team this year. We play in the S Wales academy league u16's division. We are an u15s team playing up a year and so far they have done us proud with 2 wins and 2 draws against older kids. We got Merthyr on Sunday who are looking the best team in the league by far so we are expecting a footballing lesson and its going to be case of damage limitation but that's why the coach took them up a year so they can gain experience ready for their final year in youth football, next year.
Sorry for that brief history but its just to show you that we were no cannon fodder for the Cardiff side. We could only play boys who were born in 1999 which meant my boy missed it by 10 days which I was gutted about but the majority of the team could play.
I couldn't go to the game because I was working but spoke to the coach after who said he could not believe the quality of the Cardiff boys. The final score was 4-4 which don't sound that good until he explained that the majority of the Cardiff team were 11yrs old. Thats 3yrs younger than the team they were playing. You go and stand a 11 year old kid next to a 14 year old boy and you will see the size difference is immense. A year is a hell of a difference but 3 is something else, especially at that age. He said their technique, movement and passing was a pleasure to watch with kids so young and he came away from the game thinking that the future of welsh football if them kids are anything to go by is looking good. Its also an unbiased opinion because unfortunately by boys coach is a Jack.
So with a bit of luck we will be seeing more Rambos coming through the system and lets hope now we are in the premiership with the facilities we have we can keep hold of them too.
Sorry for the long winded post but I thought I'd pass on what was told to me last night.
And any of those kids from last night reading this then keep up the good work boys and do this city proud.

Good post. how many years did we lose with these boys having to go to other clubs.I aslo hope the club are looking at the boys who have been released and players like your boy at port talbot........because as we have seen with players like craig noone and ricky lambert , players develope late sometimes.all the best for the rest of the season, i remember watching my son and daughter playing sport at that age.........pure joy.

Your right Denzil, watching them is a pure pleasure. All I ask for from my boy is he gives 100% and most important he goes out there with a smile on his face. I've seen to many kids being pressured by their parents and are absolutely petrified to do any thing wrong. Its not the coaches their are worried about but their very own dads. They move them from team to team every year just so they and not their kids can chase the dream. These kids, some very talented will stop playing by the time they are 18 and its such a shame.
