Andreas Cornelius to star in movie about his life

Thu Nov 14, 2013 9:57 pm

Thursday 14th November 2013.

Andreas Cornelius Cardiff City's forward unveils second career... as a movie star.

Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Pele all did it... now the latest footballing movie star could be the Bluebird's £8m Danish centre-forward.

Bluebirds striker Andreas Cornelius is set to become a Danish film star - even though his Cardiff City career has yet to take off.

Danish international Cornelius was an £8m club record signing when he signed for Cardiff last summer, but has suffered with ankle injuries.

He made his playing comeback in a private friendly yesterday after two months out injured, while plans to make a film about his remarkable rise from obscurity to become one of the hottest young properties in Scandinavian football are well advanced.

Anthony Tullberg, the director of the 2012 film Me, Myself and Martin Laursen, will attend Cardiff’s Premier League home match on Sunday week for talks with Cornelius.

Filming with Cornelius started during January 2013, but were stopped by FC Copenhagen, who wanted their young centre-forward to concentrate on his career at the club and with the Danish national team, plus his last months of study at high school.

Now Tullberg is ready to restart filming, flying in for the Manchester United clash. He said: “I want to make a portrait of a player who is in the beginning of his career and who is about to make some important decisions.

“All young people make important decisions that influence the rest of their life, but the difference is that for Andreas a decision could be the difference between zero and 250 milion Danish kroners.

“I’ve never seen a player in such a fast breakthrough. He is one of the biggest Danish talents since Michael Laudrup. Normally you write a biography at the end of a career, but I would like to tell the story about a player at the very beginning of his career.”

Tullberg is focused on Cornelius after completing Me, Myself and Martin Laursen, a film about the former AC Milan footballer who won the 2003 Uefa Champions League and 2004 Serie A championship, plus winning more than 50 international caps for Denmark.

That film is a humorous look into professional football and why director/football player Tullberg never made it to a top club, while Laursen went all the way.

Swansea manager Laudrup, Paolo Maldini, Carlo Ancelotti, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Andriy Shevchenko are among top level pro football stars and personalities who appeared in that film.

Now Tullberg has turned from Laursen to Cornelius, who has made only two brief first team appearances for the Bluebirds because of injury, and wants to make a film about a young Cardiff City player whose Premier League career with the Bluebirds has scarcely started.

He should really concentrate solely on making an impact for us and this unnecessary distraction won't do him or us any favours whatsoever. He can do this film during the summer when our season is over.

It will either make him play out of his skin to impress in front of the cameras or it will distract him, I just hope it isn't the latter
