In friendly. Cornelius played around an hour I think.

Mutch scored.

Andreas Cornelius returns to action to hand Cardiff City a big Premier League boost
14th Nov 2013

Andreas Cornelius has suffered a frustrating spell on the Cardiff City sidelines

Cardiff City striker Andreas Cornelius came through an hour of action as the Bluebirds lost in a reserve game at Yeovil.

It was the first time the Danish frontman had played in ten weeks after injuring his ankle in Cardiff’s Capital One Cup clash at Accrington Stanley back on August 28.

That the 20-year-old came through the 2-1 defeat at Huish Park seemingly unscathed will be a huge boost to manager Malky Mackay.

Cornelius could now book himself a place on the bench at least when the Bluebirds get back into Premier League action on November 24 with the visit of Manchester United the to the Welsh capital.

The Danish international started the reserve fixture before being replaced by Rudy Gestede on the hour.

That had been the plan by Mackay and early indications are Cornelius felt no ill-effects immediately following the encounter.

Big things were expected of Cornelius when he signed for the Bluebirds from FC Copenhagen for a then club record £8m back on July 1.

The striker had earned rave reviews for his time in his native Denmark scoring 18 goals in 29 starts as Copenhagen took the Super Liga title last season.

Only this week Cornelius won two awards at the Danish Football Awards being named player of the season and talent of the year.

But his time at Cardiff has been marred by injury. Things started promisingly when Cornelius grabbed his first goal for the club in a 4-3 win in a preseason friendly at Forest Green Rovers back in July.

But he then picked up an ankle injury which disrupted his preseason.

Despite a late cameo appearance in the Bluebirds Premier League win over Manchester City three days later he was stretchered off at Accrington having sustained another ankle injury following a heavy challenge.

Today's reserve outing was his first football since then and Cornelius has vowed now to make up for lost time at Cardiff.

“Injury has kept me out of action for the start of the season at Cardiff,” said Cornelius.

“I’m determined to make a strong comeback on the field in the near future. I’m looking forward to making a big contribution.”

Cornelius may not have found the net at Yeovil, but the run out could prove significant for Mackay as his side look for the goals to keep them in the top-flight this season.

Cardiff fielded a strong side at Huish Park with likes of Mark Hudson, Tommy Smith, Craig Noone and Nicky Maynard all starting the encounter.

Jordon Mutch scored the Bluebirds goal from a well-struck second-half free-kick.

How attacking is that line up?

I'd guess Mutch & Tommy Smith in the middle flanked by Noone & Mason with Cornelius up top supported by Maynard?
Not one defensive player amongst that lot, seems strange to set up like this as it's the complete opposite to our normal set up.
Is this our plan B or A whichever way you wanna look at it, hold tight and get ready for some high scoring games :malky:

A GK who will officially sign for us in January. He used to be at Sunderland and was at Accrington Stanley at the start of this season. He left after only 2 months and has been training with us since - only know this from seeing some of our younger players mentioning him on twitter.

Yeovil Town Reserves gained a useful win over their Cardiff City counterparts this afternoon, in the latest behind-closed-doors game to be arranged for fringe players. In this afternoon's match, pretty much the whole first team squad got a look-in, with the Glovers playing two different sides across the two halves - only Chris Dunn and returning loanee Fraser Fyvie were retained after the break.

Left-back Jamie McAllister gave Yeovil the lead 26 minutes into the match when he fired home from just inside the box to give a 1-0 lead at half time. Cardiff's Jordan Mutch scored from 25 yards out, direct from a free kick to level the scores early in the second period, before a close range James Hayter header regained the lead for the Glovers.

Final Score: Yeovil Town Reserves 2 Cardiff City Reserves 1.

Scorers: Jamie McAllister (1-0), Jordan Mutch (1-1), James Hayter (2-1).

Yeovil Town Reserves: (starting line-up)
Chris Dunn, Joe Edwards, Byron Webster, Liam Fontaine, Luke Ayling, Jamie McAllister, Joel Grant, Ed Upson, Fraser Fyvie, Joe Ralls, Paddy Madden.

Cardiff City Reserves: (starting line-up)
Ben Wilson, John Brayford, Kane Owen, Jordan Mutch, Mark Hudson, Matthew Connolly, Tommy Smith, Joe Mason, Andreas Cornelius, Craig Noone, Nicky Maynard
