It all stems to manure many years later imo, when the FA let them opt out the one season, and hasn't been the same since, although they could easily rectify this problem, by giving the winners an automatic spot in the champions league, and whoever finishes 4th in the premiership gets an Europa league slot instead.

I was thinking of giving the Braintree replay a miss next week as the tickets haven't been reduced but still ended up getting one, but I doubt there'll be a lot more than 2000 there to watch a weakened side
