Joe Mason: Cardiff City decide against Bolton loan deal
Joe Mason has returned to Cardiff City less than 24 hours after Bolton confirmed a loan move for the striker.
Wanderers announced on Monday that the 22-year-old had joined the Championship club until 5 January.
However, Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has now decided that he would like to keep Mason as part of his squad.
The former Plymouth man has scored 18 goals during his time with the Bluebirds, including in the 2012 League Cup final against Liverpool.
But he has made only two appearances for the Welsh club this term, both of them in the Capital One Cup.

Bluebirds had announced month-long deal for young striker, but switch has been called off after a change of heart from Mackay
Joe Mason's loan deal with Bolton has been called off
Joe Mason's loan move from Cardiff City to Championship club Bolton Wanderers has been called off.
Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay was set to allow young striker Mason out on loan, but had a late change of heart and talked to Bolton boss Dougie Freedman last night.
The two men are friends and the decision has been amicable with Mackay feeling he may need Mason in his Premier League squad during the coming fixtures.
While Mason is unlikely to start against Manchester United and Arsenal in Cardiff's next two matches, he could well be among the substitutes.
There were 10 clubs, mainly at Championship level, who were keen to sign Mason on loan and he was in Bolton yesterday for talks with Freedman.
He also trained with Wanderers and was expected to sign until January 5.
Mackay, though, has decided Mason, 22, is needed by the Bluebirds over the next couple of months.

Does this mean that Malky's not confident about Cornelius being fit and ready?
If Cornelius is due to get back to full fitness within the next 2 weeks, then Mason would not have any chance of game time, unless all of a sudden Malky views Mason as a better option than Maynard.
It will be interesting to see how the team and tactics may change by the end of November.

Its either Mackay differing or Cornelius is still not fit,if its the latter,Mackay needs to be open and honest as to why our 9 million pound striker is still not available

I wonder if this Cornelius saga is part of the bust up behind the scenes! Just a thought.

I still think mason should be used this season, his work rate could come in very handy.

Angelis has one hell of an agenda against malky, it's as if malky has done something to him which has mentally scarred him.

Cardiff City have recalled Joe Mason from his loan spell at Bolton, less than 24 hours after the deal was finalised.
Mason trained with Wanderers on Monday and penned a two-month loan deal with the club later in the day, but Cardiff boss Malky Mackay has since had a change of heart and decided to take the 22-year-old back to the Premier League club.
The Republic of Ireland under-21 international has yet to feature in a league game for the Bluebirds this season, meaning the u-turn comes as somewhat of a surprise. His quick departure means Bolton are back to having Jermaine Beckford, David Ngog and Craig Davies as the only recognised senior forwards at the club.

So it's a shame we're having him back in the squad where he will get a chance to play this time

It's hilarious how numpties on here automatically assume the deal is off because cornelius isn't fit or not good enough!
Tue Nov 12, 2013 5:45 pm
Maybe he'll be replacing Maynard in the squad? Nice to see him get a run out against United. Or Stoke which is coming up soon

Cardiff City forward Joe Mason could yet complete a loan move to Bolton, with a decision likely to be made next week.
Mason joined Wanderers on a two-month loan from the Bluebirds on Monday, but was called back to his parent club less than 24 hours after the move had materialised.
The reason for the quick change of heart, as explained by City boss Malky Mackay, was because of injuries to strike duo Peter Odemwingie and Rudy Gestede. Should both players recover sufficiently enough in the coming week, Mason is likely to return to the Reebok Stadium before the closure of the loan window on November 28.
Speaking to Wales Online, Mackay said: "Rudy Gestede and Peter Odemwingie both took wee knocks and our thought was that we had to be sure both are okay.
"Neither is serious, but I felt it was right to bring Joe back. Hopefully, though, the loan move could be completed in a week or so. It's simply a case of being certain exactly how Rudy and Peter are.
"I talked to Dougie (Freedman) and apologised to him. He understands that we have a couple of minor injuries and just want those checked out.
"We are hopeful something will be done about the loan next week.
"We'll see how Peter is over the international break and then make our decision.
"Joe was only going out with a view to playing matches."
